Yahoo! Movies has just debuted the second trailer for the upcoming remake The Karate Kid, which will be released in theaters nationwide on June 11. Click below to watch this brand new video.

In Columbia Pictures' The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

The Karate Kid stars Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith, Taraji P. Henson and will be released in theaters on June 11.

The Karate Kid was released June 11th, 2010 and stars Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, Taraji P. Henson, Wenwen Han, Rongguang Yu, Zhensu Wu, Zhiheng Wang, Zhenwei Wang. The film is directed by Harald Zwart.

So, I'm sure that someone has already pointed this out multiple times ... but karate is an Okinawan/Japanese art. He's learning kung-fu in the movie, an entirely separate Chinese art. The last thing we need is more movies confusing America about Oriental arts. Sigh.

If you want an excellent movie outside of the USA, watch "Harry Brown." It's a British film starring Michael Cain...as long as we were on the subject.

most mainstream movies are just for people who are too lazy to scour the underground and other countries for movies to watch anyway

I thought this was renamed to The Kung-Fu Kid? Im sure MovieWeb posted a while ago that it was... Guess the studio changed their minds... Idiots! I didn't hear the word Karate once in that entire trailer. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it was going to be, definitely not cinema worthy, but if it comes on tv or i get a dvd from a mate ill check it out... If i have nothing else better to do.

some chinese people would freak the f*ck out about a black kid winning a competition.
you should have seen they way they reacted to black/chinese girl on their version of the idol singing contest.

anyway, i agree, they should have stuck with kung-fu kid, but otherwise it lookslike a decent movie.
not gonna watch it though because im not 10 and i dont have kids.

Is funny how people start praising original movies as soon as a remake comes out. I'm sure most of you didnt like so much or werent even born when the original came out. The original was alright but you cant compared it with a more modern and updated version let go of the past people!. I think this one is pretty decent and the story doesnt sound that bad either.

A Karate Kid who learns kung fu.... whoever named this film? The Kung Fu Kid would also differentiate it from the originals. And yeah, it doesn't matter if it's not up to the original, can't be worse than The Next Karate Kid!

not bad, but why not the Kung Fu kid. he isnt learning Karate! I do like the last bit of the trailer with the fly and chopsticks, then he uses the fly swatter, classic.

I agree that they should have called this movie, The Kung Fu Kid. Jaden seems a little young, but only if you compare him to the age of the original karate kid.

I think Jackie Chan will be a great teacher in this movie, and the location backdrops look awesome. I have a feeling that the new, younger generation of youth will find this move appealing.

Wow I didn't know people were praising the 80s versions that much lol

I always enjoyed watching it because I thought it was pretty bad, it made me laugh when it wasn't supposed to be and because I had time to kill and there's nothing else on TV. I just love how Dan was such a wuss and the fact that Miyagi was always there to save his ass at the last minute lol Oh and that one-leg kick?? Are you kidding me? That's probably the biggest insult in martial arts history. Have you ever seen one real martial artist such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Tony Jaa or even Jean-Claude Van Damme ever used such kind of a ridiculous position when they fight?? lol

Anybody remember how Dan was whining like a girl when Miyagi puts his hands on his chest for some kind of a quick healing?? loooool

And I always love how people are quickly jumping to conclusions when they say they can't believe Jackie Chan is beating the sh*t out of these 13 years old kids lol All he did was blocking and dodging lol Wouldn't you do the same?

Though I know this will not be as good as the originals but I am willing to give this a shot. I like the shots they had of the people training with the cobra and what not.

  26. The Narrator: The Better Man

Some people are too harsh. The first was nothing special guys. Granted this looks like a cheese-fest, and the cast needs to be a at least 4 years older on all sides, but hey, it doesn't look half bad. Will I watch it? No. But was the first that good in the first place? No. It was fine for the 80's, and I bet this will fit into this generation just fine. Overall, could care less.

  27. Bryan Yentz

Wow, now that makes two sh*tty remakes that Will's kid has been in and he's only like ten years old... Looks like he's taking his confused, "who farted?" expression from Day the Earth Stood Still into this one too. Geez, this is gonna suck.
