Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins Conceptual Art and Set Report
Here is the entry from Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins director McG.
We've officially started principal photography on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Like you guys, I've been a long-time fan of the series and I understand your passion for the Terminator movies -- and it's my full intention to deliver a film that lives up to the previous three installments. I've spent time with James Cameron, spoken to Arnold Schwarzenegger, gone over the story with Jonah Nolan, and enlisted Stan Winston.
Everything we're shooting is designed to be tactile and real, you'll be seeing a whole set of inspired designs you've never seen before, and best of all you'll finally get to see some of the post-judgment day future that was only hinted at in the previous movies.
John Connor will be pushed to the brink. And for me, Christian Bale embodies Connor's strength and tenacity perfectly. And after visiting Sam Worthington on the set of Avatar, I know he's perfect for his role.
As you know, Anton Yelchin is playing Kyle Reese, and his prep has been unbelievable. The guy's been watching all three Terminators incessantly and he's definitely going to capture the essence of the character Michael Biehn created in Cameron's first film.
We started principal photography with a sequence at Griffith Observatory. I've already seen a cut of it -- Anton and Sam are excellent. I'll have more on that soon, and can't wait to share some of what we're doing with you all. Stay tuned for more.

I think it would be a huge mistake to have T800's in the first of the new movies especially if it is set right after the apocalypse. In the original story line it took decades of engineering on cyberdyne's part to create several series of Terminators... the first:T-100 we sall in Terminator3: Rise of the Machines, then there are many others inculding the T400's and the T600's which where humanoid but had fake rubber skin... If they start out directly after the nuclear war with technology that doesn't exist yet, it just won't make sense or feel right.
I am a huge fan of James Cameron and his legacy that HE created. What ever storyline Holywood decides to go with will be seriously jacked up if they were to place T800's in this first film... They have to show some sort of continuity of evolution with the Terminator models, and to that extent there would also be no reason to include Arnold in any of the new films but the last since he is only one of many models (model 101) of the series T800 we should have a chance to see other models of the T800's as well, like The Rock could play one or even Sylvester Stallone... he was ripped in his new Rambo flick.
I just hope that the first of these new movies show the T400's which look kida like Robocop or the Cylons with an armored exoskeleton then maybe see some T600's in the second movie then the T800's and T900's and even a couple of T1000's running around in the third movie. I think that would do justice to the original idea and storyline that James Cameron created.

What bothers me about the PG13 rating is that the original wasn't. The original would still be R now. But the lowering of the age rating also leads me to think that the menace the original Terminator had will almost be completely gone, and most of the tension with it.

This concept picture is alright, but I wonder how the story line will take place. I say that they start off a new trilogy from scratch. Plus the Sarah Oconnor Chronicle's doesn't help out with the story they could actually put out... If Anorld ain't back in this movie, then it's just not the same thing. I'm still not impressed with the pg-13 rating either...

i personally feel that rise of the machines sucked....just good action is not what a terminator movie needs....it needs to have a good storyline like the first two and an awesome bad guy...the problem with T3 was that the idea behind the villain was not as innovative as in T2....the new one sounds good though....and Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors....hopefully this will revive the terminator franchise or at least finish on a good note.

Agreed, Chosen. The whole PG13 fear is nothing to be worried about. Besides, ratings really don't matter because they're always changing to match current times. Nowadays what is rated PG may have been R 30 years ago.

Why is everyone concerned with the PG13 rating? It's the exact same rating as all the LOTR movies had. The only reason why T2 and 3 received an R rating was because of the nude scenes in which introduced the terminators. All the action, which has never been gratuitous, is well within the realms of a PG13 movie by today's standards.

Was looking forward to the future war. But the age rating still really bugs me. It's ironic, but 'cos it's a large-scale war, this'll probably have a bigger kill count than all the other Terminator films put together. Obviously with less gore and swearing though.

I'll just have to see this movie when it comes out. This movie can't really be judged yet. Could be good, could be bad, I just have to wait and see. Who knows? Maybe it could exceed my expectations.

well if any of you remember the terminator 3 concept art was well done and the movie ended up parodying itself instead of trying to make some type of statement that the first two films made. Cameron was making a statement about mankind, through the eyes of an action film. i really hope this is something to be looked forward to. bale is amazing, not quite sure mc g is the first choice for me, nice to see winston back... i really had hoped cameron might be involved with a producing credit just to kind of set things right in "his world". but hopefully mc g can do the series some justice again with this new trilogy.

The movie will do better commercially with the PG-13 rating...but then again when the time comes when they have to do the "rating pending" thing...it will probably get an R rating with all the violence. I mean look at all the good movies that are only PG-13. It's not that much of a loss, just more or less a few f bombs will be not present lol.

The Narrator: The Better Man
I hat the fact it's pg-13, but I trust that Bale is as smart as he is a good actor, and chose this movie for a reason. The art looks good, but the movie is very shaky.

CHANGE THAT GOD AWFUL TITLE!
So far this is sh*t to me, the only redeeming factor I can say for this movie is Christian Bale.
Again, i'll wait for the trailer.
