The Terminator comes back as animated feature
The story details for Terminator 3000 are being kept under close wraps, but the writers and production team have a stated goal of minimizing violence in order to obtain a PG-13 level of material.
Hemdale produced and distributed director James Cameron's original Terminator feature, but released the sequel rights in 1990 to Carolco, which later transferred the rights to ultimately end up under the control of Halcyon Media. Santa Barbara based Pacificor, LLC prevailed in the most recent auction and transfer of rights to the franchise in January, and retains approval and licensing authority over the proposed Terminator 3000 project.
Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment will release details of the production timing, financing and principal production personnel later this year, in advance of a proposed January, 2011 start.

70 million is a high price for this, but fear not this hasn't been approved so it may not happen.

this is what i dont understand....robocop was a very violent film and it was a major hit at the theatres with a r rateing, the first terminator had an r rateing and look where it went a bunch of sequels it did very well too, so i think a movie with a excellent story that keeps the peoples attention they tend to look pass the violence,or sex or what ever gave it that rateing, or is it the rateings board that is strongarming the movie producers to tone the stuff down, hey just a thought.....because there was a time awhile back where rob zombie,eli roth and a couple others that were getting a lot of hell from the movie rateings board telling them to tone down their movies....or maybe they should get some really good writers...

It's true, they can get away with a lot more stuff in PG-13 films these days. But this just doesn't cut it. Sure Terminator Salvation was PG-13, and I liked it, but c'mon ... if you're gonna make this animated, at least make it gritty.

As for this, I think for an animated film to work, it has to be an R-rating to balance out the fact that it's animated. We'll see...but I won't hold my breath.

@Err: Totally agree. The Bale/Arnie fight was awesome on the big screen when I first saw it. I mean, the film doesn't stack up to multiple viewings, but it's still decent.

I think people should see what it'll be like first before judging. Yes the pg-13 thing sucks but as long as the story doesn't suck then we might see something good. Violence doesn't make a movie good. Story does. T-3 had tons of violence but imo wasn't as good as terminator salvation which was pg-13. Plus people know how to puch the limits of pg-13 nowadays.

i liked salvation, i think it gets a bad rap but was a decent flick, especially that whole arnie vs bale thing at the end, that sh*t sent chills down my spine when i saw it in the theatre.

I personally thought TerminatorSalvation was great...but the one thing I didn't like about the movie was the fact that it was a pg-13 rating. I did't see how this subject matter could possibly attain that rating without compromising content of the film.
Now with that said...I think this is a poor idea and will just be a waste of time. What other violent and sometimes bloody franchise would you like to see re-worked into a pg-13 animated movie? Predator seems to fit this bill. Everyone loved the original, there were some sequels people want to forget about, and they recently made a new one....next stop, pg13 3d animation! can't wait

While I really liked Terminator Salvation I think this is beyond a terrible idea. Why in the world do you need to spend 70 million to make an animated movie and a PG-13 animated movie at that. They probably could make a really good animated movie for no more than 15 to 20 million dollars. This is just a huge waste and this just hurt the Terminator franchise even more.

I enjoyed Salvation for what it was but I do agree it had it's flaws. I just can't see this as a PG, R yes but nothing else.

Yeah salvation wasn't that good. What really bugged is that John Connor had no emotional reaction to seeing the Arnold terminator. At the end of the 2nd movie he is crying over this thing, this robot that was better to him than any human but in T4 is acts like he had never seen the damn thing before.

@felipe-11 Although you might have been one of the few that liked that film others saw it as jumbled mess in terms of writing, acting and directing.
The movie was not a "hit" and far from. Keep in mind that the studio only retains approx 54% of the c*mulative gross. Failure Facts: 371 million gross worldwide, 200 million budget not including marketing and distribution, critically panned.
It may have broken even with DVD sales etc, but do the math it made less than T3.
