Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio to Write The Lone Ranger

Two of the hottest writers around will take on one lone horseman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio have signed on to write The Lone Ranger. The film will be a live-action adaptation and will be set up by Walt Disney Pictures and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The rights to the series, which started as a radio program in the 1930s, is owned by Classic Media. The origin of the story revolves around a group of Texas Rangers who are chasing down a band of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish, when the outlaws ambush them leaving only one Ranger alive, who, after being saved by a Native American, Tonto, goes back after the gang with Tonto and his trusty steed Silver.

...It will definitely need all the help it can get. The last time the character was revived on the big screen was 1981 in The Legend of the Lone Ranger. It was such a failure that the film's star, Klinton Spilsbury, never worked in Hollywood again. There was a WB television movie in 2003, with the idea of launching a weekly series, but it too failed.

Pirates turned to sh*t in the latter half of the second movie. The third was drivel. Now they'll be a bunch of teeny-bopper fangirls getting stupid over cowboys. Is nothing sacred?

well look at pirates. Disney's made that an awesome tril. this i think will be good too. jerry bruckheimer has "the midas touch" remember. plus they have good directors.

Yes brew1701, back in the Early 80's there was a film called: "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" Klinton Spilsbury played the Lone Ranger who has never appeared in another film!

Excuse me, marc? Ur my friend, but the lone ranger is not gay. U prolly just don't like him cuz of the old tv series. The new comic is badass though, and the movie will most likely be like that and make them badass.

Great!I liked the TV series but the movie wasn't that good.Anything Jerry Bruckheimer touches turns into a Hit!I can't Wait for this one.

I hope they include the theme song of the original tv series in there. Oh, and if not james mangold for director, then reteam the writers with pirates director gore verbinski

It's not a remake. If anything it'll be an adaptation of the new comic. Besides, it's about time the lone ranger got an updated movie. I knew it was only a matter of time when the new comic was released. I can't wait, and i have confidence that the writers can make him work for the next generation.
