Ted and The Bourne Legacy sequels are moving forward at Universal
Universal Pictures is aiming to make sequels from two of its biggest summer hits, the raunchy R-rated comedy Ted and the action-thriller spin-off The Bourne Legacy. NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke spoke at the 2012 Media, Communications & Technology conference in Los Angeles earlier today, where he revealed that the film division needs, "franchises and animation" to achieve a level of stability.

They already have an uber-popular franchise in The Fast and the Furious, with the latest installment, The Fast and the Furious 6, currently in production and set for release next summer. The executive also revealed that fans should expect a sequel to The Bourne Legacy, which has taken in over $180 million worldwide in just over a month.

Ted, directed by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, was the biggest surprise hit this summer, taking in a whopping $394 million worldwide. Steve Burke revealed that they want to get a sequel going, "as soon as we can." Back in July, Seth MacFarlane said he would be open to making a sequel, although it isn't known if he is working on the screenplay yet.

As for the animation side of the studio, they eventually want to release two animated movies per year, as opposed to their current model of one film every 18 months.

Ted was released June 29th, 2012 and stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane, Joel McHale, Giovanni Ribisi, Patrick Warburton, Matt Walsh, Jessica Barth. The film is directed by Seth MacFarlane.

The Bourne Legacy was released August 10th, 2012 and stars Jeremy Renner, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, Edward Norton, Donna Murphy, Michael Chernus, Corey Stoll, Alice Gainer. The film is directed by Tony Gilroy.

Loved the Bourne Legacy can not wait for the next one. Loved Jeremy Renner, didn't think I would like him but wow just awesome. Love all of the action and the concept. I have not since Ted.

I hope it stars Jermy Renner, however. I never really liked the original Bourne films except the first one. I couldn't deal with Bourne as a character anyhow. He was always crying about something and needing to "find" himself. I sort of prefer my spies a bit tougher then that. Plus Matt Damon has such a large head, physically I mean.

In my opinion both of these movies were duds, but I'd certainly take Ted over The Bouring Legacy.

Not the biggest fan of Ted (Felt like the focus was too much on Wahlberg and Kunis and less on Ted himself which was a dissapointment) and never watched the Bourne Legacy.

@the-movieghost: I think that would be hard since all the novels that follow The Bourne Ultimatum follow Jason Bourne. Also if you look at Gilory's writing credits you'll see that he's only ever done adaptations of someone elses work. I mention that in my review of the film.

@huntsman Oh right, I'd forgotten about that. But that makes me wonder why he couldn't just adapt the Novel to Renner's character. Though I'm not certain how difficult that would be since I haven't read it.

@mcleve02 Isn't it though? That's one of the great things about @movieweb

  14. Huntsman

@the-movieghost: The reason why he did a good job writing was because he had such a great source material, and wasn't trying to create his own story and characters which he tried to do with this film.

@huntsman I say a better Director and have someone to reign in Gilroy when it's needed. Remember, Gilroy did the screenplays for all three Damon Bourne movies.

  30. The Cryptkeeper: Resurrected

Ted was such a piece of sh*t, I hated it. It is one of those movies that makes me worried about society. However I did notice the box office numbers were unfortunately incredibly high, so I saw a sequel coming. As for Bourne, I did not see Legacy yet, sadly, but there are 8 books (I think) so I'm pretty sure these will keep coming.
