The Twilight actor had to let go of one of his many upcoming film projects
Both films are based off toy lines, with Max Steel a Mattel property and Stretch Armstrong a Hasbro product. It was said that Lautner's decision to go with Stretch Armstrong was based on Hasbro moving the project through development quicker than Mattel was moving forward with Max Steel.
"When you sign up to make a movie with Hasbro, you know it will be in theaters a year later," said one of the site's sources who was familiar with the Lautner decision.
Max Steel was released in 2011.
Stretch Armstrong comes to theaters April 11th, 2014. The film is directed by Rob Letterman.
