Last week, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 director David Yates signed on to direct Tarzan for Warner Bros. The filmmaker already has a front runner to play the title character in Alexander Skarsgård, with Samuel L. Jackson in talks for a supporting role.

The report from last week also mentioned that Henry Cavill and Charlie Hunnam were top contenders for the role along with Alexander Skarsgård, although it seems the studio and director have decided on the True Blood star. A formal offer has not been issued to the actor as of yet. Alexander Skarsgård's 6'4" frame and hulking screen presence are believed to be factors that lead to the studio's decision.

The story will center on John Clayton III, also known as the infamous "ape man" Tarzan. He is asked by Queen Victoria to investigate a conflict in the Congo. Samuel L. Jackson is in discussions to play George Washington Williams, a Civil War veteran and former mercenary who teams up with Clayton to stop an evil warlord.

No production schedule was given for this big screen adventure.

Tarzan comes to theaters July 1st, 2016 and stars Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz, Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt. The film is directed by David Yates.
