It seems Target needs Disney a bit more than they thought.

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Target has backed off from a previous threat made to the Mouse House about pulling "in-store promotions of products from Walt Disney after Disney threatened not to ship DVDs of hit movie Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

The standoff stems from Target being upset at Disney's "decision to sell movies online through Apple Computer Co.'s iTunes store for less than it charges Target and other retailers."

There is actually a lot of animosity by retailers toward studios who want to make their products available online. Stores like Target see digital sales of films as a threat to their business because studios charge less for the downloads. The studios maintain they have to charge less money because the downloads "are lower quality and typically do not contain the kinds of extra features included on DVDs."
