Tangled Scores Biggest Thanksgiving Weekend Opening Day Ever

Tangled opens big on Pre-Thanksgiving Wednesday
Tangled opens big on Pre-Thanksgiving Wednesday
Disney's milestone 50th animated feature Tangled managed to score $11.5 million on its first day of release, earning the highest Thanksgiving holiday opening day grosses ever. Debuting on Wednesday, Tangled managed to beat the previous highest Thanksgiving weekend opener Toy Story 2, which went onto score $57.3 million over the course of its entire holiday weekend back in 1999.

Tangled is expected to make close to $65 million over the course of its five-day holiday weekend. That is impressive, but the numbers won't be high enough to beat the Hogwarts juggernaut Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, which actually won the Wednesday box office with $14.4 million. It is expected to make more than $90 million over the course of its five-day weekend. That would bring its total box office grosses to date up to $230 million.

Adults aren't flocking to the theater without their kids in tow this Thanksgiving. The three big releases aimed at folks over ten didn't fare too well. Burlesque took the third spot on Wednesday, earning only $2.8 million. It is expected to round out its five-day opening with just $17.8 million. Love and Other Drugs was at number five with $2.1 million, vying for a total weekend gross of $15.1 million. And Dwayne Johnson's R-rated return to action got decimated, bringing in only $1.6 million on Wednesday, for a total five-day gross of $9.4 million, if its lucky.

We'll have full weekend box office numbers for you on Monday.

Just like his father ;) - he absolutely loves the first one, though. Watches it over and over.

Would it help if I mentioned that he started to pay attention at the landfill scene? :P
Besides, he's young. He doesn't have to let his toys go for years. Hard for him to relate.

He got bored with Toy Story? :( I don't know if that's good taste.

Just saw it again and took the kid. It's even better a second time! Not since Dragon has he been able to sit still through a whole movie (took him to Shrek 4, TS3, Owls, and MegaMind, and he got bored with them all). Is it wrong to be proud of a son with good taste? :P

@Dave, actually Burlesque is doing decently enough :( The number makes it seem poor. Faster is kerblooping though (hooray!).

To touch on something that this article did not, if estimates hold, this could be the biggest Thanksgiving weekend of all time. Nothing comes even close to this. 2 movies with over $60 million?? That's obscene
