SyFy Plans 'Sharknado 2', Check Out 6 Sequel Posters!

The film that has become a viral and cultural phenomenon makes plans for its future, with a follow-up coming soon.
Sharknado is a bonafide social and cultural hit, averaging 5000 tweets a minute for a total of 1,987,000 social media mentions since it premiered this past Thursday night. Though it drew over just 1 million viewers during its initial airing on SYFY, below average for this type of Syfy original movie, there is no denying its impact on all social media as people continue to talk about the film throughout the weekend, building more buzz for its next airing, Thursday July 18, than anything playing at the local Cineplex, including Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.

It makes sense that Syfy would already be planning a sequel. Syfy executive Thomas Vitale revealed that Sharknado 2 is in the works, though nothing is set in stone just yet.

"We've had a lot of meetings, emails. I'm not being coy, [but] that's obviously being talked about. [T]here's nothing going to be announced now just because we haven't had real discussions with the real people we have to talk to about that.

We've had other movies where the titles would catch some buzz, like Sharktopus or Jersey Shore Shark Attack. But the level that Sharknado reached, that was a surprise. It's one of those happy accidents."

Director Anthony C. Ferrante had these comments to make, revealing that no one has called him quite yet about the sequel.

"Uh, no one's called me yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it would be on its way soon. I mean, what do you do after Sharknado? You've got to up the ante."

A number of posters for potential sequels have already hit the Internet. Check out some ideas for the next sequel, which promises Sharkicane, a Sharkcano, a Sharkalanche, and even Siamese twin sisters played by Olivia Wilde and Elizabeth Banks, with Amanda Bynes, Kirk Cameron and Patton Oswalt all thrown into the mix.
