Susan Sarandon and John Goodman Say You Don't Know Jack
Kevorkian, who is also known by the moniker of Dr. Death, assisted in over 130 suicides. He was convicted in 1999 of committing second-degree murder when he willingly sent 60 Minutes a videotape of himself euthanizing a terminally ill man. He did eight years in prison before being paroled in 2007.
The film is somewhat based on Neal Nicol and Harry Wylie's book "Between the Dying and the Dead: Dr. Jack Kevorkian's Life and the Battle to Legalize Euthanasia."
In the movie, we will see Kevorkian's (Pacino) rise as he creates the Mercy Machine and goes about performing assisted suicides. All the while he is in court defending his clients right to no longer live.
Goodman will play the real life Nicol. He was a friend and co-worker of Kevorkian since 1961 and and very much supported people's right to die.
Nicol had training as a corpsman and laboratory technician. This allowed him to assist Kevorkian on numerous occasions. He had a laboratory supply company that gave Kevorkian the materials he needed to perform the suicides.
Sarandon will play the part of Janet Good. She worked with the Hemlock Society and becomes a big supporter of Kevorkian. They worked together to allow the terminally ill to die on their own terms. She is diagnosed with terminal cancer and she has Kevorkian perform his services on her.
