Supernatural Creator Eric Kripke Stepping Down as Showrunner for Season 6

Creator Eric Kripke hands over the day-to-day operations to producer Sera Gamble
Even though a popular CW series was given a sixth season yesterday, it seems that the show will be going through some changes in their ranks. Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files is reporting that Supernatural series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke will be stepping down from his showrunner post for the show's sixth season.

The site reports that executive producer Sera Gamble, who has been a part of the show from day one, will replace Kripke and his co-showrunner Robert Singer as the showrunner and will handle the day-to-day affairs of the series. However, unlike most instances when a showrunner steps down, Kripke and Singer will still have an active voice in the series.

"Eric and Bob will be working very closely with Sera," says the source. "They are not abandoning the show."

It was said that one reason that Kripke stepped down was that he was finishing up a deal with Warner Bros. Television that could have him developing a brand new series. Click Here! for the entire article.

finally some back up thx kylenin51 i don't know why people bash smallville, i haven't missed one episode and own all the box sets, i think smallville is great and if it wasn't for smallville, we wouldn't have Jensen Ackles and the iconic character we all enjoy the bad ass Dean Winchester

"The original executive producers of Smallville stepped down after season 7 and look how horrible the show has turned out."

What? The series has only gotten BETTER since they left. They were clearly holding the series back from its potential.

As for this "Supernatural" news, I'm not surprised by this. Kripke has made it clear that the series was only supposed to be five seasons long. It only makes sense that he would pass the reigns over to someone else. But it's not just anyone else. It's someone who's been writing for the show since season one. And Kripke isn't leaving the series (like the creators of "Smallville" did). He just won't be the showrunner anymore.

Nooooooo!!! The original executive producers of Smallville stepped down after season 7 and look how horrible the show has turned out. I'll still watch it, but not have high hopes for it.

Holy sh*t! NOOOOOOO!!! The show CAN'T go on without Kripke! At the same token though, Gamble knows what she's doing, so I'm not as worried as they were totally replacing him.
