Superman to Be Physical Says Zack Snyder

Superman gets physical in Zack Snyder's reboot
Zack Snyder has come forward once again to drop more hints about his upcoming Superman reboot for Warner Bros. The director is continuing to remain mostly quiet about story details, but he has stated that this will be a more action-packed adventure than previous installments. He also explained that his sole reason for taking on the project was the script's updated take on the character.

Here's the latest on what Zack Snyder had to say about 2012's Superman.

"My feeling about Superman is that I've been a fan of the character for a long time. But the question for me was always, 'What can you do with Superman in a modern world?' And I think the amazing thing that Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer have created, that I'm working on now, and the reason why I was like, 'Yeah, I'll do that,' was that they found that in him. They found the why in him. That's the exciting part for me."

Zack Snyder then went onto explain how his Superman is different than previous entries in the cannon.

"I can't really talk about that without being kind of specific. But I can say I think Superman needs to be physical."

Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

"...the why..." It's amazing how implementing this concept in filmmaking causes a movie to go that much further. That's why Chris Nolan is one of my favorite filmmakers. That's why his Batman franchise works, or any of his movies for that matter.

By the way, I meant not as a main villain. Sorry if anyone was confused with the last statement in my previous post.

@Narrator, your trilogy is fine by me, although perhaps I would have Desaad be the string puller of Doomsday in the second film, leading to an invasion of Earth by Darkseid and the forces of Apokolips. This however, would only work for me if DC and WB remain adamant about their stance on a JLA film, which is dead in the water as of now. I'll be honest, I want to see Darkseid in action, and if JLA never occurs, then Superman will have to do.

  9. The Narrator: The Better Man

Agreed @Ejk. I'd like Brainiac to be the intro villain, the first uber hard challenge for Supes. The sequel can have Doomsday in the last 40-50 minutes or so, but only at the behest of someone more character driven, like Zod, or the Eradicator. I say last few minutes because the second film needs to focus on the change of view Luthor has on the boy scout, leading us to the third film. For a final film, I say a Zod invasion of the world, helped by Luthor, culminating in a finale for finales. then of course, I'd have Millers "Clark, alone on an empty Earth" like thing, staring at the sun. Perfect! :)

There's no way to make Doomsday better. Read up, my friend. When Doomsday gained sentient thought, fear came with it, and he was no longer a match for Superman. Unless they totally redo the character, taking everything DC did before and throwing it away in the process, this character is just not strong enough to carry a movie. He may pack a punch, but his lack of intelligence greatly hampers what can be done with the character. He would be fine as a peripheral villain, but as a main villain.

@Ejk1 - Dude, you lack vision. Thats why filmmakers have creative control over things like that.....thats the whole point, to ADD on to characters. To make them better!
Yes, Doomsday was a brute-like character with animalistic qualities, but that's not to say that they couldn't add depth to him if they were to bring him to the big screen. Thats why we have screenwriters.

And just for the record, Bryan Singer's original follow-up to Superman Returns, which of course was scrapped, had Doomsday as the primary villain. If Singer saw something in Doomsday there is no reason why Snyder/Nolan couldn't.

As soon as I saw Chris Nolan's name in the sentence, I didn't even bother reading the rest because I didn't need to. And I'm sure Zack Synder knows what he's doing as well. To this day, i still marvel at 300.

@K-Man, How can I say Doomsday is not a great villain? Because he is not a great villain. When he "killed" Superman, he was nothing more than an instinctive animal, violent beyond belief, but lacking the intelligence to truly carry his own weight in this movie. What would Snyder do with him? He certainly wouldn't be able to produce moments like the Joker had in TDK, or Dafoe in Spider-Man. There's no deviously criminal mind at work, only some extraordinary killing machine. But that's it. If you want only blood, by all means pick Doomsday. However, if you want a real story, a villain with a brain is needed.

The problem with Superman returns was that, it wasn't something new. We seen that story before in comics more or less. The movie wasn't fresh with new ideas. Zack Snyder knows how to shoot a movie and make it look beautiful and exciting. Christopher Nolan showed us that he can tell a stories in a fresh and new way. This will be the best superman yet, just wait and see.

@Ejk1 - How can you say Doomsday is "not a great villian" when he is the only one who was able to kill Superman? Sure he didn't have a long run in the comics or as you put it "a one hit wonder".... but thats because it only took one issue to kill the f*ckin guy.

Given films have creative freedom, which means they probably are not looking to kill Superman off, perhaps they can have Superman face off against Doomsday and this time defeat him. Either way, there is a lot of "love" for Doomsday because he would, without a doubt, give superman the best run for his money.....physically, that is. Not to mention, with the right creative team behind him, which this film definitely has, he would look great on the big screen.

ha @ejk1 well he did kill Superman.. thats kind of a big deal. but i get what your saying though. i just want to see Snyder do a villain thats never been done before like braniac or metallo. then have darkseid in it down the line like in the 3rd or 4th one

Why all this love for Doomsday? He's a one-hit wonder. He is not that great of a villain.

honestly i want for the first movie brainiac or metallo as the "main villain" then sort of introduce lex luthor some where in the middle of the film and then at the end let there be an epic scene leaving it open for the second movie kinda like they did with dark knight

because honestly people im tired of sh*tty superman movies lets see super man be a bad ass brute for once and no more bitchy sensitive superman like in that god awful superman returns
my faith runs strong in zach snyder he is the best choice for the man of steel
