Geoff Johns inspires Superman reboot
You can read this forward below (courtesy of comicbookmovie):
"There is a heart breaking moment halfway through the first chapter in which young Clark is told the truth about his heritage. He races out into the night, sobbing, stumbling through the cornfields. Eventually, his foster father, Jonathan, finds him.
'I don't want to be someone else,' says Clark. 'I don't want to be different. I want to be Clark Kent.'
[And here's the kicker...]
'I want to be your son'
Right there in that moment, Geoff Johns contextualized Superman in a way that I'm not sure has ever really been done before. I had an 'aha' experience when I read that. For the first time I was able to grasp how lonely Clark must have been when he was growing up. And what a sacrifice Clark must continually make by being Superman.
As I write this, I am midway through my first draft of a new Superman screenplay. It's a task that has stymied many talented filmmakers in the years since Richard Donner's film. And for all I know, it will end up stymieing me as well.
But I've got one advantage that the screenwriters who came before me didn't have-- and that's access to all the wonderful Superman stories written by Geoff Johns-- first and foremost being the Secret Origin issues reprinted in the very volume you are now holding."

Because of what Goyer has stated here, there is some speculation that Geoff Johns's Superman: Secret Origin will serve as a base outline for Zack Snyder's Superman. Here is the synopsis for the graphic novel:
"Chronicling Clark Kent's journey from the cornfields of Smallville to the skyscrapers of Metropolis, you'll witness a whole new look at the beginnings of Lex Luthor, the Legion of Super-Heroes, Lois Lane, Metallo, Jimmy Olsen, the Parasite and more of your favorite characters from the Superman family! It's a look at the mythic past of the Man of Steel with an eye toward the future!"
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

People stop comparing it to Smallville. Personally I love Smallville. And I KNOW Smallville and I don't think Tom Welling would be any good as The Man Of Steel on the Big Screen. I'm just hoping they cast someone who can actually act and that looks like him. Goyer is going to blow our minds with the Screenplay. I mean c'mon Goyer = The Dark Knight, Dark City, FlashForward, Jumper and much more!

I don't think most of us want an Origins film but it's in their hands not us.

I thought Nolan dropped the film completely. It's in one of the articles above.

"And only the few people who hate Smallville are gonna bitch and whine about this. "
Actually, I like Smallville, and would still have a problem with that.
Origin story doesn't equal Smallville.

Ok just did a bit of research because I love you lot haha.
Nolan is an Executive Producer & Story Consultant, in brief he has a say in the story direction, but has no hand in the script, which is usual for Nolan.
The script is being written by David Goyer & Johnathan Nolan

@Zany lol, i know but i meant the dialogue, total cheese fest, but kinda cool.
as @Rufio stated, Nolan is a Producer i'm not sure weather that means his an average producer but I'm guessing his more of an executive producer.

If they do go with an origin story......yet again, then I dont see why Tom Welling wouldnt be actually considered for the part. If they went a totally different route then I would say no chance but this, if true, leaves the door open for him. And only the few people who hate Smallville are gonna bitch and whine about this. Smallville is a great show and its rating this season prove its still a highly watched show.

Don't really want another origin of Superman story, but I have faith in Snyder and Goyer.

Stop comparing it to Smallville, you jackasses.

Goyer will make right! the concern here is whether it will ba based only through the mythos as descripted by Geoff Johns and moving on the the future as Superman was intended to be!
No more Lex and backstories, it would be a no brainer for this film to be a shellacked with redundant plots.

It doesn't matter what Nolan's involvement was/is anymore. It is now in Snyder's hands. With Goyer writing, using Johns' stories, I feel very good about where this is going.

@Narrator: He has Blade! Jumper! The Unborn! All of which were snubbed for best picture and best screenplay, in my opinion. :P

the Narrator
@Rufio, most of the numerous articles that had information on the reboot had Nolan pegged as a co-writer, which would explain why he was the one who got to choose the director. Also, he's not producing. his wife is, from what I remember.
If Nolan didn't co-write the screenplay, then my expectations are definitely downed. Goyer, other than being involved with BB and TDK, has a lousy filmography. So if he's the chief writer, then I'm not really expecting to much story wise.

1. nolan is a producer (and probably a creative sounding board; don't know to what extent he is involved in writing, but probably not much - goyer is the chief script writer).
2. i LOVE this story direction! can't wait for this! more excited now than i was before!!!

I'm with @Zany. I'm pretty sure Nolan co-wrote the screenplay, or was he just an inspirational tool for Goyer? Not following here.

Dont care what anyone says, but this who idea of where they are doing this,,,, Its called Smallville..... Would be nice to see the beginings of Superman, as Superman, with bigger budgets for better graphics. But the who, I want to be a normal HUMAN kid,,,, first 5 seasons of Smallville.... Last 5, was a I am superman, but not ready to be called superman, and I have to deal with superman stories as a non superman "Superman"....

I meant as regards to the screenplay. It was my understanding that Nolan would still have a writing credit. Either way, glad to hear they're pressing forward.

Yeah. Nolan is out. I think he had a hand in the story, though.
Anyway, I haven't read this, but I like Johns' stuff.

This . . . actually sounds quite good. I like what Goyer is thinking, here :)
