Superman Eyeing Joe Manganiello as Clark Kent?

Joe Manganiello wanted as Superman
True Blood's Joe Manganiello is rumored to be up for the role of Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot. While appearing at EyeCon this weekend, the actor revealed that he is in talks with Warner Bros. to take over this iconic character.

True-blood.net, who first discovered this news, also claim that Smallville's Tom Welling and Superman Returns' Brandon Routh are still being considered to reprise the part. With both actors having previously played the Man of Steel, their casting would go against everything director Snyder has said up to this point about the movie's storyline being a reboot of the franchise.

After news that Joe Manganiello is in the top running for Superman leaked on-line, Manganiello took to his personal Twitter account to clarify the matter, but his use of quotations could mean any number of things: 1) He already has the role. 2) He is hoping to get the word out that he wants the role by making a bid for it with stories like these. Here is what he said:

"Just to be clear... as of today, I am not "negotiating" to play Superman ...but keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the wishful thinking!"

A casting announcement is expected soon. We will keep you updated as news on Superman breaks.

Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@The_Narrator: But my point is that it doesn't have to be a reboot, going back to Superman's early days. They can just make a standalone film that doesn't contradict or reference the previous films. I know it's a bad example, but what Schumacher's Batman films did is what I'd like to see here, only in the sense that they picked up in media res of Batman without having to introduce us to the character, and just told a story from there.

I still like the idea of Brandon Routh returning, even if it is reboot, because he is the perfect mix of both Clark and Superman, in my opinion. The guy was perfect and never really got a chance to shine in the role because the "action packed" sequel that Singer originally wanted to make never happened. It's hard to find that balance of both roles in the same actor and I feel they successfully accomplished that with Routh, so why risk it?

Then again, I never watch true blood, so I do know enough about this guy to make a call whether he is good or not.

This is terrible news. First Zach Snyder and his slow-mo style movies...now they wanna play the emo card like everyone else these days by using another one of these vampire related douchebags. If it isn't Welling or Routh, I won't be watching it.

In my part no matter who will be the Clark Kent but the bottom line is how he could act for the best.

Hell NO!!! Keep Routh or even try Welling but he looks no where near the look of Clark/Superman. Give the other guys first!!!

@emytt. i think it'll be good. with chris nolan attatched, it'll be awesome. and with j nolan and goyer writing, it will at least have a good story. i'm optimistic about this one.

i agree that routh should be given another shot at the part. it's not his fault that SR sucked and had more holes than swiss cheese. i think he'd do a great job as supes in a better written movie. besides the guy looks exactly like superman. where's the downside?

i really liked returns but i thought they could have made lex more darker than comical... i also think brandon routh should keep his role.. but i am really keen to what nolan does !

  12. The Narrator: The Better Man

@Josh, it makes sense to reboot. Returns was a continuation from the original series, and despite its achievements and pro's, at the end of the day it still could have been a lot better. With Nolan helming, Snyder directing and John Nolan writing with Goyer, this gives the series a slight edge for being successful. I'm not going to say its gonna definitely be good, but it does have a huge leg up.

I love Returns, and wish they were just making a sequel. Enough of this "soft reboot" crap.
