Superman Eyeing Jessica Biel and Rachel McAdams for Lois Lane

Jessica Biel and Rachel McAdams are front runners to play Lois Lane in Superman
After the big news on Sunday that Henry Cavill is the new Man of Steel in Zack Snyder's Superman, the next major role to be cast is Lois Lane. It seems a number of high-profile actresses have already read or will read for the role, including Jessica Biel, Kristen Stewart, Malin Akerman, Rachel McAdams and Dianna Agron.

Among those actresses, Jessica Biel is one of the front runners along with Rachel McAdams. Dianna Agron might be too young for the part, while the 32-year-old Malin Akerman might be considered too old when appearing alongside the 27-year-old Henry Cavill. Kristen Stewart is said to be entertaining a number of other offers besides Superman, and may be an unlikely candidate as well.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kristen Bell were mentioned in the casting round-up, thought their involvement isn't completely clear at this time.

Zack Snyder is directing Superman from a script by David S. Goyer, which is based on a story created by David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan.

Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Watched "Morning Glory" the other night. I must say Rachel McAdams was great in that movie, and I do believe more then ever she the perfect choice for Lois Lane!

  2. Lane

Well, out of these 2 there's really no competition. Biel looks like a Lane but McAdams is the better (and more likable) actress. Though, if Winstead is going to be auditioning for the role, I'd say she'd be the best choice for 2 main reasons.

    1. I dunno if anyone's seen that picture of her with the ponytail in Grindhouse, but she looks JUST like Lois right there.
And 2. Her and Cavill look like they would have the best chemistry out of anyone else. While good acting is key (which she's clearly proven she can act), the chemistry has to be there too in order to make them believable in the roles. If there was one saving grace about Bosworth's miscasting in Returns, it was that she had really great chemistry with Routh (especially during the scenes where Routh was in the suit).

    Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

@dimerte, I'm not talking about the movies alone. I'm talking about the comics. And you completely missed the point anyways. DC only has so much to draw from, because it hasn't developed mid-level players into stronger properties. Marvel has much more depth, which means they can put out multiple movies in every year.

I thought we were talking about the utter hotness of the future Lois Lane ... McAdams # 1, Biel # 2. This DC v. Marvel discussion is a bit skewed. Try to remember where it all began ... Superman ... 1978 ... "You will believe a man can fly" ... and we did. Superman started the entire comic book and comics to film genres. Pay appropriate homage to Big Blue. Marvel may have the edge right now, thanks to another guy wearing red and blue (Spidey), but one great Superman movie vis-a-vis 'The Dark Night' and the discussion is over about strongest money makers. I love what Marvel is doing (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, and Avengers), but Superman is king. I hope Snyder gets it right.

DC makes three GL books and five or six Batman books. If they had a roster as strong as Marvel, this wouldn't be necessary.

    Here's the point, guys.

DC: Batman, Superman, WW=the trinity. GL, Flash, MM, and Aquaman=next tier. After this, huge drop off(willingly said by a huge DC fan)

Marvel: Spider-Man, Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Daredevil, Hulk, and Wolverine=Top tier(can't argue any of these. Each character with the exception of Wolverine has been the star of a comic that has gone at least five-hundred issues). Teams: X-Men(500+), FF(587 until Johnny died last week;series ends next month), and of course, The Avengers. Their mid level guys include Silver Surfer, Punisher, Hawkeye, Namor, and Black Widow. Face it DC fans, this isn't as close as you want it to be.

  10. the Narrator

@Supes, Spidey was Marvels comic selling Champion. That''s not usually the case for GL, but lately, with Johns writings, it has taken off. Still., I think @ejks points are more than fair.

GL looks a bit campy (not that Spidey wasn't campy). But then, Spidey made over 400 million domestic alone.

I don't think I'm reading anything into anything, @Supes. I gave two theories--either they have something cooking, or they feel GL is going to kill. It must be one or the other, because they simply don't have enough guns to take on Marvel after Bats and Big Blue.

  16. the Narrator

Exactly @ejk. It just doesn't make sense. It's like they feel intimidated by The Avengers or something and feel the need to flew their big bad two. Maybe they want to own that year and corner the market, for something, as you said, secretive. It just doesn't make sense.

@Narrator, damn my quick fingers ;P

Why the hell does WB feel the need to put Boy Scout and Bats in the same summer? Either they're planning something in secret, or they are overly confident on GL, because nothing else is on the horizon--Flash? Possibly. WW? Improbable? Manhunter? No way. Why not hold Superman for 2013, and the bring GL2 for 2014, working out any flaws that the first movie may have? BB and TDK were three years apart, and things turned out just fine.

But yeah, we get each others points.

  21. the Narrator

Agreed there @ejk. However, the studio, since they are dead set on a Summer 2012 release date, may be in a hurry due to the fact that Spidey's been filming (to give them as much post-pro time as needed) and TDKR will also soon under way. This is Superman, with Snyder attached, possibly being in 3D... they'll need a lot of post-pro. Lol. So, while I may not be in such a hurry to get casting over with, I am sure some suits are.

I think that was all they thought about for the last few months, Dave, and now they are feeling a time crunch on the rest of the cast. Personally, if this film were delayed until 2013, it might be a blessing. Give it more time to develop, and let it move further away from TDKR, which it will be compared to, most likely unfavorably.

But you both see my point. There are many to choose from, and at this early stage, why whittle it down to two so quickly? Give it as much thought possible, WB.

  27. the Narrator

    @ejk, I'm a no on Wilde.

Although she's pretty cool in House, and seems to be progressing both fame and talent wise as an actress, I feel Lois Lane (the most iconic female in the history of comic book films to date) is to big a role for her. Nor does she necessarily fit Lane's profile. personally, I still want her for a Selina Kyle, but since that ship has sailed the Hathaway route, I think it best she steer clear from comics book films for the time being... however, if not Zooey Deschanel, she could make a great Betty Brant. That's as far as I'll go with her for now.

@ejk1 McAdams still wins to me

As of now, let McAdams be the lead horse in this race. She can stay there, unless someone comes along that fits better. Let me throw one name out there: Olivia Wilde. Now where does everyone stand?

@Narrator good points bro. I'd have to say I enjoyed McAdams chemistry with Gosling in "The notebook" which I'll review soon. But apart from that-no other film really stood out with chemistry for her. "The time travelers wife" maybe
