Darren Aronofsky could direct Superman for Warner Bros.
We reported last week that directors Zack Snyder, Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman and Duncan Jones were at the top of Warner Bros.' wish list of directors. Producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are overseeing the project for the studio, and our earlier report indicated that the decision on a director will happen in the next few weeks.
The Los Angeles Times also noted that Darren Aronofsky has a history of turning down high-profile studio project so he can hang onto more creative control. However, with Christopher Nolan (who started with a similar indie background) producing, this project could be a good fit for both Darren Aronofsky and the Man of Steel.
We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further news regarding Superman as soon as it becomes available.
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Way to arty farty for this material. Good but slightly warped director. This isn't for him.

Err
i keep thinking they are just throwing this info around for sh*ts and giggles and will wind up picking some unknown music video director to shoot the movie.
but, hey, i'm cynical.

I think we all are waiting to see an updated superman brawler movie...like in superman 2...with today's technology and visionary action packed directors like ZACK SNYDER....there shouldn't be a though decission to make...if you want to please the super fans...and see your investment really rewarded....pick him....he with the guidance of christopher nolan, almost secure a success....

could be a good fit. will wait until its official though. rumors on movieweb (or most entertainment sites) RARELY turnout. just people speculating because so-and-so came within 20 miles of Nolan... "he must be here to meet with Nolan eventually about directing said movie..."

I think Aronofsky is great, not sure if he's the right choice for this though.

Yea i loved the guy Routh as superman. hes young and can really pull it off. i dont really wanna see sum young teen or wannab teen portraying a much younger superman than routh.. this isnt spiderman, , i wouldnt mind alil baby boy, but not a teen. so this guy should get the superman seat and no1 should take it. but like @tomp said, more action or fighting scenes should b put into it. rather than having him save sumbody at the begining and then nothing but talking and bullchits, then at the end a lame boss fight.

yeh I don't mind either, you've got chris nolan producing whch is awesome, and I hope Brandon Routh is back, because he was brilliant in the newest one, it just lacked more action.

Why cant Nolan do both? Direct and Produce? or is that not allowed in movie making? This guy alone would get 1 of the biggest paychecks if he had it all in his hands, because only he knows better and how to bring sumthing to life. But i guess if the movie come out stupid, he doesnt want to b the blame lol. :P

Nolan should do whatever he wants to do, and Warner Bros. should say "yes Mr. Nolan, you know best." Nolan's Batman series should not be messed with at all. If Nolan wants to do 3D, that's fine. Bottom line: Warner Bros. should let Nolan shoot the film any way he wants. He has earned that right.

Not to get off subject...well yeah to get completely off subject...wait for the article about how Warner Bros, not matter what, is gonna force Chris Nolan to direct Batman 3 entirely in 3D...
Will Nolan bow down to the fad of 3D mania these days...?
Will Nolan stick to his dislike of 3D and film it better in Imax...?
Or will Warner Bros enforce this, and stupidly risk Nolan to say OK, and just leave the project all together...?

Brandon Routh had a 3 picture deal. He wasn't a bad Superman. Singer just tried to hard to continue the 1978 franchise. He was directing Routh to be Christopher Reeve. With Nolan involved, that won't happen again. The dude has time to get an acting coach and reboot himself for it. Nolan's input will help him in the role. As for Spiderman, rebooting a franchise that's FN 8 years old is FN stupid....no matter who plays him!

@Daveactor7, Routh has been in two underperforming movies. That is not enough to seal the deal for him.

Yeah, not sure how solid this is, but I'm curious as to how he'd bring Superman to the screen. I doubted Nolan with Batman too and look how that ended up. With Nolan overlooking this project, it's bound to better than what we've seen to date.

Tomorrow I'll read "UPDATE: Guess what? We were wrong, Aronofsky didn't even know he was in the running, nor cares to direct Superman".

I love Darren Aronofsky. He's one of the few bright spots when it comes to directors today. But I don't know how you can "revive" something that never had any life to begin with. The Superman franchise isn't a franchise. It's a disaster.
