Michael Shannon might play Superman's unknown villain
It still isn't clear who this villain actually is, with speculation running to the character Zod. There was another rumor last month that Ursa, Zod's sidekick, might be the main villain, although that seems unlikely now. This unknown villain is clearly next on Warner Bros. casting agenda, though. Henry Cavill will play Superman, with Diane Lane and Kevin Costner portraying his adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Michael Shannon was most recently seen on the first season of HBO's hit series Boardwalk Empire. He also stars in the Sony Pictures Classics movie Take Shelter, which is set for release later this year. Michael Shannon is currently attached to a number of projects such as The Iceman, Premium Rush, and Machine Gun Preacher, although it isn't known when any of those productions will start filming.
Zack Snyder will direct Superman from a script by David S. Goyer. Production is said to start later this summer.
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@ejk1 Yeah, I read that, too. I also just read on CBM that Snyder plans on going a new route with Superman, not his usual 'stylistic' one. That's spin talk for "the studio is pressuring me to change up my game, or I'm gone".

@dan1 I don't think he'll have a choice. Sucker Punch may do well this weekend, but it definitely won't have legs. He's going to have to make people forget what at least one reviewer has called a "failure of Airbender proportions."

I've heard some talk about Bizarro, but who knows. Personally, I think Ramirez looks a little like Vandal Savage, which doesn't make all that much sense as far as this film goes. I expect Snyder will be more forthcoming after this weekend, what with all the blistering he's going to receive for Sucker Punch, which is already deemed a colossal critical failure. He's going to need to restore some confidence and credit he will almost certainly lose by Monday.
