Superman Brings Back Ursa as Its Villain?

Ursa rumored to be Superman reboot's female villian
Ursa rumored to be Superman reboot's female villian
Earlier this week, it was announced that a number of actresses were auditioning for a lead role in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot. Those said to be up for the role were Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike. Though Warner Bros. had decided to keep quite about which iconic DC Comics character they were auditioning for, it was made clear that it wasn't Lois Lane.

Today a new rumor has surfaced which indicates that the character in question is actually Ursa, Zod's right-hand woman from both the original 1978 Superman and 1981's Superman II, which was played by British actress Sarah Douglas opposite Terence Stamp's General Zod.

In early November, Zack Snyder went on record stating that General Zod would not be appearing in his Superman reboot. This now has fans speculating if Zack Snyder was trying to throw off the sent of what he was doing with Superman, as Zod and Ursa are two-thirds of the criminals banished by Jor-El to the Phantom Zone in Superman.

This new rumor also indicates that Lois Lane is definitely in the current draft of the script, and that she will be a main part of this new storyline.

Superman is set to begin filming this summer, so expect to hear more official casting announcements soon.

Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Rosamund Pike would be a good Lana Lang, like say if they showed a brief glimpse of his life in Kansas. She actually looks like Lana, but she is kinda too adult to pull the early years off. She'd have to be the adult Lana.

Does anyone ever stop to think that they might be looking for someone to play Lana Lang instead?

Oh yeaaaaaaaaah! I soooooo see Tilda Swinton playing Ursa. One of my favorite Superman Villains of all time. She was so lez in Superman II and hated men. I would love to see Supes kick her ass. Or Lois again. Let's hope they have a different actress playing Lois this time around. Somebody with the comic personality of Margo Kidder. And let's not let this movie ferment so long. I think all of the script changes and long wait and anticipation is what killed SR.

The studios were dumbasses for passing on Miller's trilogy idea. Each executive deserved a slap on each cheek.

I love the idea, @Narrator. But that's the problem. Hollywood rarely makes the movies for the audience that the material would most appeal to; they would rather try and come up with something that THEY believe would gain the biggest audience. This explains the Jar-Jar's and racially stereotypic Autobots. The studios think they are being hip, but all they are doing is degrading the product.

Glad to see some folks liked Millers idea. Apparently, the studio didn't. :P

@The Narrator...That would be a trilogy of epic proportions. It would be a Superman on screen like we'd never seen before.

@Narrator: I do believe as Superman is standing there at the end, the last man of Earth, he looks up at the sun, that slowly changes from yellow to red... now that would have been an epic ending!

  16. The Narrator: The Better Man

Exactly @Insert. But who knows. Goyer might have something un-thought of up his sleeve and the villain may well turn out to be someone we haven't seen before.

Not to cry over spilt milk, but does anyone remember Mark Millers original EPIC three part franchise reboot pitch? Don't remember it exactly, but I think this was close to what he'd wanted:

He'd wanted the first film to feature Brainiac, in an origins like story, but with Superman already freshly established in the world. Then the second film would feature Doomsday and Clarks death/resurrection (being like an Empire Strikes back sequel, where it's darker and more serious in tone), and the third feature would have Zod and Lex being the villains (perfect because that gave two whole films to build up Luthors relationship and betrayal of Clark).

In the end, he wanted the trilogies very last moment to be with Clark all alone and grey haired on a deserted and empty planet Earth, staring at the sun... glistening. Showing that he survived all things, to his own despair and sadness.

Man that would have been F*CKING EPIC... I tear at the thought.

Why can't they just use a Villain who has not been used yet? It's really annoying seeing the same character reused over an over again.

i think the chick from 'V' (dont remember her name) would be good for this part if she doesn't get the part in AVENGERS. she looks just like her. i dont like diane kruger is right for this.

No Zod. No Ursa. No things we have seen before. If Snyder wants to make a mark, then use a different path. Using a villain we've already seen will produce nothing that will please me.

Agreed @Ejk. When Nolan said they had a great idea of how to approach the Big Blue Boyscout, they didn't say anything about the villains. And since Goyer wrote the script... well, I'll await further news. 'Till then, this is a rumor I would rather not have be true.
