Earlier today, it was announced that Relativity Media is moving forward with a big screen adventure based on Hasbro's popular 1970s toy line Stretch Armstrong, taking over for Universal Pictures, whom had originally owned the rights to this potential franchise.

Now news comes that original star Taylor Lautner has jumped ship, sighting scheduling conflicts as the reason for his departure. The The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 actor is currently in pre-production on Incarceron, about a young man that lives within a prison community.

A new cast for Stretch Armstrong is being announced in the near future. The film is targeting an April of 2014 release date.

Stretch Armstrong comes to theaters April 11th, 2014. The film is directed by Rob Letterman.

    @ejk1 Well, they slapped "transformers" in there, so a chunk of people might go see it. Some curious (me), some who just want to watch action and leave their brain at the door (me), and just to see how they mess it up (me)

    IGN reported earlier today that this film is dead. The prevailing thought is that the fad of making toys and board games into films is done. I'm almost certain that this is because of the negativity surrounding Battleship, as I know no one that wants to see that. I'm going out on a very small limb here (I think), but here goes nothing: Battleship is going to be a colossal dud. Like of Waterworld proportions.

    @ROFLitschristian - I did the same thing :).
    @shuabert - I agree, even without Lantner a Armstrong movie is just stupid. One I hated the toy, and two unlike the G.I.JOE toys that had a animated series that create a story for the toys Armstrong has no backstory.

    An actor so unanimously hated by the male gender decided to take a role in a movie with a male dominant fanbase?? Can't say I saw that one coming.... @ROFLitschristian I'm with ya.

    I want a movie called The Earth that Lautner signs up for and gets removed from just so I can see a headline that reads "The Earth looses Taylor Lautner." What a day of small rejoicing that would be.
