Steve Pink to Remake Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Steve Pink is about to get dirty and rotten for his next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pink will write and direct a remake of the 1988 comedy classic, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

That 1988 film, which starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine, was also a remake of the 1964 film, Bedtime Story, which starred Marlon Brando and David Niven. The film was also spun off onto Broadway for a 2005 play starring John Lithgow, who won a Tony for his performance.

Apparently, buzz has built over Pink's project and a host of talent is reportedly interested in the film, which will be modernized for the Internet era of con men, as soon as Pink completes the script.

"Movies like that, which are so brilliant, the problem with writing them is a) you have to beat those jokes, and it's hard, and b), they're so funny that they defy story logic in a way," says Pink. "So I'm trying to split the difference. Because the cons have to be sophisticated, but you also want their behavior to be totally outrageous and absurd. So I'm trying to find the balance between keeping it massively funny, but then also make the cons credible."

No production schedule was announced.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels comes to theaters in 2012.

The 1988 version was great why try to make a stupid remake for the for the money. Can't you come up with a more original idea maybe you should remake A Night At The Opera or How about It Happened One Night or maybe a comedic version of Citizen Kane

I usually like remakes, unlike everyone on this site, but this is kinda a stupid idea. The movie isn't THAT old and it's not like it needs a visual update from the original lol. Just a good comedy, not an action movie. No need to remake it. They can do this but it takes 20 years to get a f*cking Ghostbusters 3 wtf?!

No remakes of Steve Martin movies. You dont have to "beat" anything. Just leave it the way it is, which is perfect. Sometimes, I just want to kick Hollywood right in the junk.
