Stephen Norrington indicates that he's still attached to the project
We haven't heard much about a remake of the 1994 film The Crow lately and it seems the project is still moving forward. Mania recently spoke with director Stephen Norrington who revealed that he's still on board with the remake.

"The producer and visual effects people are crunching numbers," Norrington said. "We've opened discussions with major cast but nothing is final yet."

We recently reported that Norrington had signed on to direct The Lost Patrol, but the site is reporting that Norrington would film The Crow remake before that project.

The Crow was released May 11th, 1994 and stars Brandon Lee, Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott, Ling Bai, Sofia Shinas, Anna Levine, David Patrick Kelly. The film is directed by Alex Proyas.

There is no factual information that I could find that supports that Brandon Lee was considered for Neo in the Matrix films. It's just a rumor with an interesting concept.

i think you were right there mr.blonde, i'm pretty sure i read a similar thing. shame he would've made a very cool neo

dammm makes you wonder how the crow franchise woulda turned out after the first one if brandon lee hadnt died.....i read on the internet somewhere that he was actually the first choice to play neo in the matrix movies before he died any truth to that??...im jus curious

  4. masterofthemoon

Wonder if it'll follow closer to the comic than the 1994 version? Hard to say who could play as Eric Draven cause Brandon Lee was awesome in the 94 film.

i will watch it on dvd just so i got some solid facts to back me up when i say how horrible it was, i am a true fan of the original and have many items in my personal collection, a book, flask, post cards and even a had done painting and another one a kinda sketch work, this is in my opinion gonna suck so i cant wait for it to come out so my opinion has some meaning behind it, and the other thing, who is gonna play the main character, i saw this role for heath ledger in my opinion, who else could possible play it???? anyone????

Yeah but The Crow will most likely only be watched by fans of the original, and even though there are a lot of Crow fans, in regards to style and taste, most people who haven't watched the original, won't see the remake for the same reason. It's too gothic-ish for the every day joe. Box office revenue wise, it will turn up like Watchmen, even though it was a great film, the R rating and darker tone alienates most of the "potential" audience the studios want. I wouldn't be surprised if this was PG-13 for that reason, that's why AvP and the last 2 Terminator films have been PG-13. Wider audience.

Hollywood only cares about one thing, getting it made and $$$$$.

It should work with a voting system, so that way people like us can control the content we see.

ridiculous, I have loved this movie since I saw it in theaters when I was 10...they need to stop f*cking with classics and think of ORIGINAL movies..ugh!

OK, new rule I want to instigete on Hollywood... No remakes/reboots unless the original is at least 20 years old, with the only allowable exception being when the original sucked so bad, that you need a mulligan (the Hulk with Eric Bana or Superman Returns for example).

Lol to Radimus and drewski. To elaborate, it just seems redundant to make a Crow remake. Yeah we will probably go see it, but it's not like it's THAT popular to the general audience. Most people haven't even heard of the Crow films, so why would they want to remake it? So it's more commonly known like a superhero movie? Fanboys will be only people telling other "newcomers" that it's a remake of a classic movie and to go watch the original. I'm sure they'll make money from just the fanboys, and I have no problem with people finding treasure films, but if this remake sucks, it will hurt The Crow word of mouth, cause if you have any discussions about The Crow, somebody will be like 'oh that movie sucked ass as much as Street Fighter" and you'll have to explain that you meant the OLD ORIGINAL movie not this new teeny bopper version lol. I can just see movie geeks everywhere in frustrating convos with every day citizens lol.

A Remake of the original Crow really is an affront to the first production & the memory of the late Brandon Lee. I believe that the remake will only excel in the effects departement, but, lack the idelible charm & heart of the Lee original...Where's the Blu Ray Crow (1994)?

  15. Radimus-83

Good one Chad, now at this minute there is a Hollywood producer taking notes,..."that guy chad from movieweb is on to something, remaking Terminator.... then mix it with James Camerons 3-D bullsh*t. it would make a killing!"

The only way this will be "ok" to any fan is if they either don't make it lol, or have it so it's R, otherwise it'd be kinda pointless. Even though The Crow is a cult classic, why would you remake this movie? That's like remaking Terminator 1.

  18. lantimes

i think an indication on how bad the last crow movies and tv series were compared to brandons classic, is a good example how this reboot will fail badly.

I posted my response to this on my page. I guess it's kind of a blog thing? If you want some good news regarding The Crow here is some on the Authors Edition coming soon. It's the first entry on the page.

This is pretty old news, but could this mean a new DVD release (BLU RAY to all you high rollers) is down the line for The Crow? Read the last part of this article and you will see why I think that? I could be wrong to I guess?

I have only recently seen this movie but I now see why it is a classic film of the 90s....but of course Hollywood wants to remake everything and why not this geat film...I dont mind seeing remakes but usually they keep making horrible versions of the originals and leave those who watched the originals disgusted.

Why ruin a classic? Brandon Lee was great to begin with. If they truly want an updated version, try Special Edition in HD and while they are at it, they'll ruin it with 3D.

I agree with Charles, it's not just one person, i.e the other 3 movies plus the comics. I say we reboot Star Wars or maybe Die Hard. Come on people is Hollywood out of ideas that they need to ruin the CLASSICS!!! I'm glad for Green Lantern, Deadpool and Kick Ass because those people are TRYING. Please don't ruin thismovie if and when it's made.

They are not gonna top the 1st one. It's a classic and Brandon Lee made that movie. I don't understand why a reboot in the comics there are different crows, unless I'm wrong. I mean once they put right their wrong they can rest again. This would be like rebooting old 007 movies, like Goldfinger or Goldeneye, total BS. Just do a new story at least.
