Legendary TV icon Stephen J. Cannell died on Thursday night in his Pasadena, California home at the age of 69, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Stephen J. Cannell created a number of successful television series including The A-Team, The Rockford Files, 21 Jump Street, The Greatest American Hero, The Commish and many more. He passed away due to complications from melanoma. Here's a statement his family released to the site:

"Aside from being a legendary television producer and prolific writer, Stephen was also a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. Mr. Cannell is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Marcia, their three children, Tawnia, Chelsea and Cody and three grandchildren. Stephen was the pillar of strength within his family and he touched everyone he met. He will be most deeply missed. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or The International Dyslexia Association. Details regarding his memorial service will be released."

Stephen J. Cannell also authored 16 novels and, after overcoming dyslexia, he became a spokesman, spreading awareness about the condition and becoming an advocate for people with learning disabilities.

I recently watched on the Biography channel the story of Johny Depps career, and there were segments showing Stephen talking bout his time working with Johnny on 21 Jump Street, he seemed like a koo laid back guy and said he was proud to have seen an unknown actor like Johnny grow to be such a superstar and was glad to have been there in the beginning and still be his friend right up till now. i cant tell he was a sincere man and its sad to see someone like that go, specially these days in this warped industry where Paris Hilton gettin caught with drugs gets more news coverage then this mans life and death, its a shame.... R.I.P Stephen Cannell

I've still never seen either "21 Jump Street " or "The A-Team." Never rerun on any weird channels like WGN which reruns shows like "ALF," or TV Land which reruns everything from "Sanford & Son" (Redd Foxx is awesome by the way) to "All in the Family" (Carroll O'Connor is also cool of course). RIP Cannell.
