Ok everyone who posted that this movie should not be "remade" should know that paul verhoeven's verson is a remake based off of a anime from 1988 and a crappy one at that. What he didnt steal from the anime he got off ofbthe back of the book, heck i wonder if he even took the time to read it. If the new version of Starship Troopers is based off of the book like they say then you can expect it to be simular to Halo, Aliens, Starcraft 1 & 2, Iron Man, Warhammer 40k, distrect 9, Fallout, ect. Because all of these have heavy influince from the book and/or take everything from the book like Starcraft. So before you decide weather or not to see this movie rember that the P.V. verson only shares the name of the book and is not based off of it like this new movie is said to be.
Oh ya, almost forgot to tell you that you should read the book then watch the P.V. version

This is not a remake of Verhoeven's movie, but rather a remake of a movie based on a Robert A. Heinlein book. If you haven't read the book, well let me just say if the new movie is going to be based on the book you won't even know the two movies have the same story line. Moreover, the Verhoeven movie is more of a comedy spoof than an actual interpretation of the book. And if it was not made as a comedy, well... I need to still think of it as comedy to enjoy it. So I hope the new movie is accurate to the book, as the book is a true science fiction epic. And if the the old Verhoeven movie gets forgotten, well... In the movies own comedic words... Its alright, cause I got to have you... Sputter sputter, cough cough.

Well, I will not bother going to this. The original film is still a masterpiece today, and it is a film that cannot be remade without failing.

Let's get this straight people... this is NOT going to be a "re-make". It would need to use the same script and ideas. I DOUBT they will do that. If they have any guts, they'll bring as LITERAL a re-telling of Heinlein's novel as they possibly can to the screen. And stop saying that the original was anything other than what it was. It was a good popcorn flick, a nice way to kill a couple of hours and have a few laughs. It WASN'T deserving of ANY AMOUNT of reverence. Go to your nearest library and borrow the novel by ROBERT A. HEINLEIN. If you can figure out how to locate a book using the DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM. "For the glory of the infantry..."

If PJ can convert LOTR to film then other directors start needing to do that with other books.

Yes, make it more like the book and it will be great! And then I can say a Starship Troopers movie was actually made. I want the powered armor, bug with weapons and spaceships and the aliens called the "Skinnies". Hollywood screws up everything it touches, do this movie correctly and I might just return to the theaters to see it. Now if they'd only do a real G.I. Joe movie.

this is a good idea with one condition: it is made into a serious sci-fi action/battle flick (with the original being campy, a remade one with a serious take seems reasonable).
if they remake another campy version, then i don't think this is necessary.

I dont know how to feel about this. I love the original for its cartoon violence and irreverant take on facism but the movie was corny and the acting....well lets not lie, it was pretty bad. But that is sort of what is so endearing about this movie.
However, if they were to take this more like the novel (I want my jet packs and mechs!!) and keep the bloody battles (its essential in the books) then i might be able to get behind it.

the book is crazy. Only bits and pieces from the book were used for the movie. In the book the soldiers had these crazy mechatech suits they road around in fight the bugs who used spaceships and lazers, they werent mindless like in the book. The book was more of a journal about Rico going through this extensive boot camp and then fighting the bugs briefly before going to officers school. The movie was hilarious though, so cheesy is was good.

Given how the original was NOT a comedy, then a remake based on the book would be totally different. From what I've been told, the soldier's armor/weapons are the only elements which were adapted into the original film. So again, this could easily work.

I wouldn't mind a reboot of this, the first film was cheesy and fun to watch. The second faltered because of the acting, storyline, effects and so on. I can't seem to find the third film.
I would like to see this as an epic adventure and done right. Regarding the Star gate comment I found out that we won't be seeing that for some time. It ran it's course and MGM feels it needs to keep it off the grid for a while since SGU didn't do well in the ratings. Personally I liked it for what it was, if it didn't come into fruition SG:A would still be around.
I'm surprised that no one has rebooted or has done a spin-off of Sliders since it's been off the air since the 90's. I'm writing a book on that series.

'sci-fi thriller'? that doesn't describe the film at all! It was a satire, and it was funny as hell. If anything it was a parody of the book it was based on. I really hope they don't try to make the story serious!
