There are few movies that lend themselves more perfectly to 3D; from the Death Star trench run to the Tatooine Podrace, the Star Wars Saga has always delivered an entertainment experience that is completely immersive. Presented by Twentieth Century Fox and Lucasfilm Ltd., the cutting edge conversion will take that immersion to the next thrilling level, with Industrial Light & Magic supervising the project. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace is expected to be released theatrically in 2012. A release date has not yet been determined.
"It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience."
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope was released May 25th, 1977 and stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew. The film is directed by George Lucas.

Cineprog
Yep, But are they going to do all Six film Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of The Jedi they were not shot Digital so they will be hard to convert to 3D unless there is some software that Lucas and ILM have come up with to do so.

Hmm... The ENTIRE Star Wars Saga? On screen, in 3D? Good luck! :P
Now, if you were to re-release the ORIGINAL trilogy, with remastered effects, and put it exclusively for IMAX theaters ,for say... Christmas next year? Then yeah, it would make money. And keep the 3D out.

TOTALLY AGREE WITH JIMTHAR. IF YOU LOOK AT HIS CAREER HOW MANY FILMS HAS LUCAS ( SHOULD BE LUCASH) MADE. HAVING SAID THAT I LOVE THE FILMS AND IF THEY GET IT SPOT ON CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT EMPIRES AS ASTEROID CHASE WILL LOOK LIKE OR JEDI'S SPACE BATTLE, THE POD RACE ECT ECT. SO MANY GREAT MOMENTS.

Qestion to any jadi out there.. is star wars a future movie or is it sumthing before life, i mean does earth exist? i guess wat i trying to say is.. did the world end and now there r other plantes out there like seen in the movie, or did all this happened b4 earth. its a stupid qestio, i know but watever the answer is, would a part 8 fit in? since no1 died in the last1, or atleast, the bad guys did, but people lived on.

Hell, it's not like there re-making Star Wars in 3D. I'll be down for this. But I'm not gonna see all 6. Probably just New Hope and Empire, the two best.

F*CK. ING. CASH. GRAB. lucas and cameron went to the same school of 'betaing a dead horse'. though lucas is much worse. i mean really, how many times are these movies going to be released in theatres??? how many ''DIFFERENT'' vhs and dvd's can you possibly release?? how many different GIMMICKS(and thats all they are) can you throw in it???
now, no offense to anyone that actually likes these movies, but lets get real here.....do you really need to see this in theatres AGAIN?? i mean, seriously.
sorry but i see this as nothing but a shameless cash grab and an excuse to charge more money for tickets and boost the overall box office of each of these movies. it's nothing more than that, and you all know it. if there is anyone out there that thinks that this is some form of an ARTISTIC statement.....you're a moron. its a 3D cash grab. and 6 mos after its theatrical release, there will be another 'version' or set of dvd's to come out to get you all to buy the same movies that you already own for the 12th time.
thats it lucas, milk that dead horse. f*g.

This 3D conversion can f*ck off. The prequel series was filled with cardboard characters and sh*t I didn't care about, it didn't have any of the wit and spirit of the original trilogy. It's as @SoylentMonkey's avatar says, if you can't make it good, make it 3D. And f*ck off with converting the original trilogy. Leave it alone already.

Goku_ssj2
They should make a new movie with motion capture technology like avatar...3D re-release is a way to milk for cash...also George Lucas shouldn't direct a new movie if there ever can be one...and @felipe-11 Episodes 1 and 2 sucked ass, Episode 3 a little less but still...so if you pay to see that sh*t again in 3D then you're exactly kind of people Lucas is targeting with this 3D fail.
