Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D Poster

Lucasfilm has released the first poster for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D, which opens in theaters across the country on February 10, 2012. The trailer for this newly converted sci-fi adventure will debut in theaters next weekend, on October 21st, attached to 3D prints of The Three Musketeers. Its also fitting that fan-favorite character Darth Maul takes center stage here on this new one-sheet, as it was recently announced by Lucasfilm that the Dark Sith Lord will actually be resurrected from the dead on an upcoming episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Check out this flashback to 1999 below.

@ghostman He's trying to hold himself from laughing so hard at how stupid this poster is. Also, Maul doesn't looks as cool as I remember him being. This is no bueno.

@stoned @moviegeek -- Exactly, which shows how lazy they are being with the advertisement, clearly because they think the name "Star Wars" will sell itself, as they milk the franchise of its' dignity.

This poster is terrible. Really? The "3D" had to be written in the slanted font. So tacky.

@Everyone complaining that George is doing nothing new.

He's working on The Clone Wars, which is actually a very expensive show for television and attempting to make the live-action series, which is much more expensive as well. Now, he's re-releasing the Star Wars saga (in 3D) to theaters, which MANY fans are excited for (even though we don't need the films to be in 3D).

Sure, I would love to see new movies too, but he obviously doesn't want to do them right now. What's so bad about what he's doing?

I wonder how they'll explain Darth Maul surviving his 'death' and coming back for The Clone Wars.

The article title should be "Get you're first look at your second look of Darth Maul Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace"

Put Jar-Jar at the center of the poster and see how many tickets you sell Lucas. Do it. You won't.

Notice how little Anakin isn't even on the poster. It's like they know the character that's the entire reason for this sucked.

I'm seriously having a hard time believing people like this poster or even think its OK... I hope this isn't were movie posters are going. They should've used the original Struzan one or at least the teaser with Anakin and the Vader shadow and added "3D" on the title, this one is plain insulting. Heck, the whole movie (and prequel trilogy) is about Anakin and he's not on it.

Fox please, this is even worse than your X-Men First Class posters...

Why is Darth Maul holding his stomach? Is he trying to keep him self from barfing like we all are too? lmao!

I will be there. Probably not in 3D, if that's an option, but I'll definitely see all of them (at least, all except maybe Attack of the Clones; ah, who am I kidding, I'll probably see that one too) in theatres.

@ghostman You are ight, he never stops but i wish he would figure out a way to create episodes 7-9 or go back to the old republic. And i am very interested on the progress of this mythical live action tv series i hear about from time to time.

  26. Lord McLovin of MovieWeb

@skywise I lol'd at your joke BTW :) Just think, it's not over yet: we still have the six films to re-release in 3D over the next SIX years, and don't forget, I'm sure George Lucas will eventually release these movies on 3D blu-ray too! He just never stops does he?!

  27. skywise

@ghostman that is exactly what i mean by the "milk factor"

of course by now you either except Lucas' milking habbits (he must not have been breast fed as a child - i know i know terrible joke but i couldnt resist) or you have moved on. But yes i see where you are coming from. Rediculous is the word that comes to mind.

  28. Lord McLovin of MovieWeb

@diaigma lmao! they're thinking 'disappointed' haha!

@ROFLitschristian @skywise Wasn't the whole point of re-releasing the Star Wars films for the sole purpose of 3D? so why release it in 2D also?

  29. Brian Satchfield

I think the poster is pretty decent and the updated digital Yoda is WAY better than the puppet Yoda. Agree with felipe-11, though; IMAX 3D would have been so much better than RealD 3D.
