Chris Pine says Star Trek 2 script is done and Kirk will have a love interest
"After a thousand questions regarding the Star Trek sequel I can finally say I am holding the draft script in my hand. I can also now tell you I have a love interest and it's all looking very exciting. Sorry but I cant give you a date for filming yet, but you guys are going to love it! (Welcome to) People is going great, finishing filming soon. Good to be working in LA again. Looking forward to summer. Take care."
Although Chris Pine's message was later deleted from his Facebook page, it is a good indication that Star Trek 2 is inching forward. We reported in January that Paramount wants to shoot the sequel in 3D. It isn't clear if that is still the plan for Star Trek 2 at this time.
Star Trek 2 comes to theaters May 17th, 2013 and stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

@Christopher-George... not saying it is a good idea, but with Abrams successful reboot they can now do a lot with other ships and stories. they can get into a lot of spin off stories (Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, etc.). again, not saying they should, but would be an interesting way of keeping the saga moving! i'd really like to see this come to life as it's own franchise that has no end in mind, but always a direction and vision to head.

I think that it goes without saying that Kirk will have a love interest, because on the show he had nothing but love interests. It is wothless to say, at least give us a hint as to who it might be!
