@ejk1, not to mention The Departed (Japan's "Internal Affairs"). However, some remakes are actually worth the risk. Internal Affairs, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc are pretty worthwhile remakes, as the foreign films were good, but in another language, and so, to capitalize on the idea, they'd remake them nearly word for word (with a few exceptions) give them a solid cast, and introduce fine film-making to the american audiences once again. Not all remakes are an evil.

That said, most are. Let Me In, while it was a good remake, was still completely unnecessary. Oldboy, while I find it overrated, is still a very solid film that can't be duplicated. It's just tooo.... different. Too unique to ever be remade for American audiences. Studios really need to pick their battles, ahem, I mean remakes, far more carefully. I'm still shocked over the Lethal Weapon reboot going on, and that's a reboot!

OMG NOOOOO!!... There couldn't possibly be a worse match of director and film than this. Lee is fine with certain kinds of movies but OLDBOY! The only (and I mean ONLY) director who could possibly not screw up a remake of this film is Quentin Tarantino!

If Spike Lee is the best they can do then they need to scrap the whole idea!

    UGH

I've never seen the original, but this doesn't surprise me. Hollywood has repeatedly remade foreign films, from Kurosawa's masterpieces all the way to making an American/English version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

It's about time that Will Smiths ego needs to get back to reality. He needs to be in another failed film.
It's way too soon to reboot this and this is not meant for Spike Lee

Is Will Smith doing this? This must not happen. Chan Wook Park is a genius and the movie does not need to be translated for US audiences to begin with but if they are hell bent on doing it this is NOT the right director. FAIL sandwich!!!!
