Spider-Man's Villain Is Rhys Ifans as the Lizard!
There were originally rumors that Venom would be the villain in Marc Webb's upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation, although The Wrap is reporting that Venom will not appear in the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot at all.
We reported back in June that The Lizard would, in fact, be the main nemesis. Ironically enough, actor Dylan Baker portrayed Dr. Curt Connors in both Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, although he never transformed into the villainous Lizard in those movies.
This news wasn't confirmed by Sony, though The Wrap does report that it was confirmed by two sources close to the production. We'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as this news is made official.
The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

And when I said not one of the big main villians, I meant when it came to knowledge of the character to the outside audience, not the fans who actually know the spiderman universe.

@daveactor7 - haha ive been notcing every article brian just goes on the attack against you, i think he secretly has a crush on you ;)
@CBF - being a fanatic you may recall this, let alone anyone else. Now I could be wrong on this but I am almost 100% positive the original article I read concerning S-M3 was that Raimi wanted to have the Vulture and Sandman as the main villians, with the vulture convincing Sandman to break out and help him with a heist. Sony/Arad (not sure which) did not want the Vulture due to the fact he isnt one of the big/main villians. Hence Venom being pushed into the movie.

Great casting! but rebooting a franchise thats 8 yrs old is FN stupid! I dont care who's in it. Maybe part 2 will be a reimagining of spiderman and we'll see the same story with a different villian....LAME!

The Narrator: The Better Man
@Josh, as @CBF said, he honestly knows his sh*t. I knew all of the things he mentioned due to news articles that I also read. I just didn't know how the studio was responding and felt about Raimi's actions. It's legit.
@Brian, thats mature.

@dadarkknight Exactly. Couldn't have said it better regarding Spider-Man 3 myself. Sony gave Raimi full creative control on S-M3, and like you said, it was Avi Arad coaxing Sam into using Venom when Raimi was not a fan of Venom. Once it came to Spider-Man 4, Sony would not relinquish full creative control to Raimi for S-M4. Some people may think I'm making it up, and that's fine. But the truth is I followed every news regarding Spider-Man 4 up until the middle of January when Raimi walked. That not to mention I'm a Spidey fanatic and purist, I know my sh*t.

@CBF Im glad someones sees the light. It seems like all people do is blame sony for what happened to spider-man 3 and how Marvel should take over. It was actually the head Marvel producer Avi Arad that wanted Venom in the third movie, not sony. Sony could give a crap about who Sam wanted in the movies after the doe they took in from the first and second movie. They basically gave him a blank check. It was Sam fault for making spidey 3 bad, he was the one who decided on the script. He was the one that wanted emo dancing spidey. He was the one who came up with the stupid idea that sandman had took out ben parker. Just to think he had built of the curt conners since the start of the franchise and still was not going to use him.
