Andrew Garfield discusses the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot
"His youth, his relatability, his struggle. He was just this skinny boy. He was a skinny boy who felt stronger on the inside than he looked on the outside, and I related to it immediately, and it stayed with me as I grew up. Every single generation of the comic, the cartoons and the movies, it all means a great deal to me. It was always something that gave me hope as a skinny little kid whose sense of injustice about the world didn't match his sense of strength about his body. I found it so inspiring and uplifting and reassuring. To be a part of that mythology and that legacy is a true honor."
Andrew Garfield is at the Toronto International Film Festival with his new movie Never Let Me Go. His co-star, Carey Mulligan, said Andrew Garfield's performance as Peter Parker might end up being compared to another popular superhero performance:
"Those big superhero films or comic films only ever work when the actors are completely truthful. If they go in with a stylized, comic book version of the performance, it's not going to work. But I know that Andrew will play the truth of what it's like to be that man in that situation. I think it'll be like what Heath Ledger did with the Joker," she added. "Andrew, he has no other way of working other than doing things with complete truth."
Andrew Garfield also mentioned that he is about to start his training for the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot and talked a bit about his regimen for the movie:
"We're just talking about where we want to go with it and what kind of body shape it should be. What the skill set should be. I know I'm going to be doing a lot of flexibility training and a lot of strength training, because I have to swing and stuff. I'm just guessing, but it's all kind of early stages."
The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

This is how I feel about all actors in general. If they don't believe they are the character they are trying to portray, what movie-goer with half a brain will believe they are? Case in point: Jessica Alba as Susan Storm, Kirsten Dunst as MJ. Very 'wooden' performances. And Dunst's crying scenes were absolutely retarded, in those scenes like the Spider-Man 2 ending she couldn't act to save her life. It's like a girlfriend you know is lying right to your face, you just don't believe them. So yeah, actors and actresses need to actually step into the role, pretend they are this person, what would this person do in this situation, that situation, etc. Think like the character. Method acting is the best type of acting.

Illiterate, that is just funny, i understand the article and made my own assumption on it, everyone like to ride coat tails and name drop, its just how some things work out, i get the so called passion but i think she is still name dropping

@Remy, I read your comment beforehand, and saying that Mulligan did so for publicity is blatant assumption on your part. Which is why I didn't address it. Again, you have failed to understand the article and my comment, which doesn't come as a surprise. You do seem rather illiterate.

Tropic thunder your serious, well looking at your name some might think your bias. Hence why your upset Heath won the Oscar for his talent. I think your mad because your boyfriend had to paint alot more of his body and lost when Heath only had to do his face i think it kinda speaks for itself. A white guy playing a black guy, yeah that's oscar worthy, I mean serious Robert Downey is a good actor but someone who's take on a black male that seems like a taller version of Gary Coleman is not oscar worthy. And you somehow think that is something special, whatever helps you sleep at night
P.S. If your gonna insult me at least spell dumb right you idiot

yeah i kinda doubt that @Tropicthunder217 for what Iron man dont think so so, even though it was a good character, being sarcastic and nonchalant is not that hard of a thing to pull off, being what Heath Ledger was as The Joker was something alot of actors fail to achieve in a lifetime in front of the camera

read what i said you moron, i said, she is using Heath's name in a article to get it noticed, anyone who see's the name Heath Ledger is gonna want to read it this, it is that simple, so before you jump to conclusions and start telling people to read what you posted, take your own advice and read what ive posted before you try to bash me,

The Narrator: The Better Man
@Daveactor, @IamBATMAN, @Remy, and all the other douches who jump to conclusions, read my past posts. She is comparing them in their passion for the character, not their acting credibility. Someone says Ledger and you guys jump at it without hesitation, like a dog chasing a tire.

@Daveactor7 totally agree, but hey some people just don't know what the hell their talking about, i see Heath Ledger as our tragedy for the 2000 era like Brandon Lee was for the 1990's, it would have been mind blowing having those two in a film, both of them left a legendary mark in my opinion in the film and entertainment industry

i have gained a little bit of interest now that he has come out and spoken about how much this role means to him. having some passion about the role is definitely a good thing.
on a side note, F*CK YOU CAREY MULLIGAN! and f*ck you to anyone else who wants to keep comparing roles to Heath Ledgers. Thats a once in decade kind of performance, and its not going to be duplicated in some spiderman movie

When I first read this on the Homepage, I thought it said something about them redoing Ledger's performance, but they're just doing a comparison. xD
Anyway, I'll get excited about this when I see a Trailer.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Guys, Ledger and Garfield are being compared in the fact that they both have (or will) do their best to make their respected character work. Does this mean he's gonna do a huge bust out performance? No. Will he go and lock himself in a room for a few weeks to get the character down? Probably not. Will he do his best to please the fans, the source material, and give it something fresh? Of course. Again, actually read and understand the article before you post aggressive response to the guy and his co-stars opinion. This is after all, one person (Ms. Mulligan's) opinion. Chill out on the reboot hate.

hes gonna do great. Tobey Maguire didnt fulfill the character of peter parker. This guy looks like he'll do a great job. Its like the issue with mark ruffalo being the new hulk. I think Edward Norton was the greatest bruce banner ever, but we should give Mark and Garfield a shot.

i think it is a bad hollywood and fanboy precedent to compare ledger's joker with any actor's portrayal of a comic-book character. no actor wants that pressure and no fanboy will ever give an actor such a distinguished honor since ledger did truly raise the bar considerably. let each role, actor, character and performance speak for themselves and let's move on with it...

Andrew Garfield is going to do great as Spiderman. Should have been him from the beginning - not Tobes (yes, Tobes). Personally i think Maguire sucked balls but thats just me. The movies were good, but the Peter we saw was a whiny little cry baby.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Guys... this isn't a competitive comparison. Did you even read what Mulligan had to say? Shes saying he'll try to do for Spider-Man what Ledger did with the Joker; attack it with vicious passion, and try and pull it off on screen as "truth".
She wasn't saying he's gonna blow anyone out of the water, just saying he is gonna dedicate himself to it. Read the articles before you accuse anyone of making such a huge accusation.
Overall, I am glad they choose this guy. I honestly hope they change the character to a junior at least so it'll work age wise.
