Spider-Man will introduce Peter Parker's biological parents
Once thought to kick-off with Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) already empowered with super human spider-strength, Spider-Man 2.0 will once again be retelling the story of how Parker came to be the superhero we all know and love today. Though, Marc Webb and his writing team are taking a slightly different approach by introducing, for the first time on film, Peter's biological parents Richard and Mary into the cinematic mythology.
In October, we reported that Sony was holding a casting call in search of a boy between the ages of 4 and 6 to play a young Peter Parker. What's Playing has now revealed that we will be seeing this young Peter with his parents, who, according to official Marvel lore, were government spies who died in a plane crash when Peter was still an infant. According to The Untold Tales of Spider-Man, Richard and Mary were both agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. Which, as you know, is headed by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the upcoming The Avengers movie.
It is unclear if Richard and Mary Parker's ties to the government will play into the storyline of Spider-Man 2.0, or how that information will come to affect Parker's transformation into Spider-Man. It is unlikely Spider-Man 2.0 will tie into the storyline of The Avengers, as one is being release by Sony and the other is being released by rival studio Disney. It may hint at that, though, as both are of course Marvel Studio properties.
While Sony was originally looking to cast a boy between the ages of 4 and 6, they have now changed their search to that of a boy between the ages of 6 and 9. It is speculated that audiences will finally learn how Peter came to be in the protective services of Aunt May (Sally Field) and Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen).
There is no word on who will be playing Peter Parker's biological parents. But if Sony and Marc Webb want to make fans happy, they'll cast Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, as these parental characters will most likely be nothing more than cameos. Seeing these two actors in this remake/reboot would certainly make us happy. How about you?
The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

I second what @Diaigma said. Plus, The Avengers is a proven source of entertainment both comic wise and animated film wise. I doubt the film will be as cram packed as you think @Narzion.

I read they were just going to have him become Spiderman in college instead of high school which i dont really like. Im anxious for the film to come out but yet deep down Im afraid to see it because i think no matter what Tobey Maguire will always be the BEST Spiderman. Those films were Amazing.... except the third

Yes, that is like the Patrick Wilson article, stating Watchmen was a masterpiece... I don't disagree about it being good, it was, but the news articles should be unbiased, MW.

"Sam Raimi created the perfect Spider-Man origin story with his 2002 movie."
-- No, he didn't. Biased articles, for sure. Spider-Man 2.0 ?? Sigh...

The Narrator: The Better Man
@ejk, just read your comment to Dave. In no way are they going to set all three films in high school. I wouldn't be surprised if Parker graduated at the end of this film.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@ejk, I see. I too was just glad they were making a Spidey film.
Also, I honestly think that they'll set the films in real time. If they do a sequel, I am nearly a 100% sure that the high school arc will have passed. So if it takes two years for a sequel to come out, two years will have passed in the film, putting Garfield in college or whatnot, similar to Spiderman 2.

Dave, do you think he will still look like that when going in to make the third film? Will he be able to pull off the believability as a thirty-five year old playing a high-schooler? You're looking at my words too short-sightedly. I'm not just talking about the first movie. My concern is with the whole trilogy, and its how it will play out. If they went in to this thinking Garfield will be playing a high schooler Peter Parker for three movies, then they probably picked the wrong guy. By the time he's thirty he could look older, much less thirty-five. The believability of the character could be gone, unless they move Parker into college.

@ejk1 it doesnt matter about how old they really are to me, he still looks young just enough to be a high school student.

Narrator, I had no problems with Maguirre, but that was a different circ*mstance. I was just excited that there was a Spider-Man movie. Also, remember that in that tale, Parker was in high-school for all of what, fifteen to twenty minutes before the graduation scenes. And with the exception of the lunch hour scene, we really weren't introduced to high-school life for Parker, which is what the reboot promises to deliver.

Dave, it's not this movie that concerns me, it's the sequels. It will be about three to four years before a sequel is put into production. He will be in his thirties by then. And since there is a plan for a trilogy, we can also add that Garfield will be in his mid-thirties when that one is filming. Still think that this will stay a high-school story? No way. They will eventually make Parker a college student, perhaps a grad student by the last movie.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@ejk, I'm sure a college setting would work out great. It would help the whole Dr. Conner story arc. However, I'm sure other fans may feel differently, and would be pissed that Parker gets his powers during his college years. I for one think Garfield looks relatively young for his age. I saw him in Imaginarium last year. He looked 17-18. So It's not too bad.
Still, I have one question: did you honestly have the same reaction when Tobey was announced to play Parker/Spidey in Raimi's series?
2 years agoby @narratorFlag
Daveactor7
@ejk1 he looks like a high schooler to me somewhat but i see our point

The only two problems I have with this movie are the fact that it's an origin tale(no matter how they dress it up, we still know how he becomes Spider-Man) and Garfield playing high-schooler Peter Parker. I think it would be better if they changed this to a college story, simply because Garfield does not look like a high-schooler, and in sequels that problem would be even more pronounced. I'm still excited, but I would be lying if I said that these issues do not bother me.

An animated New Avengers straight to DVD feature would be the only way I picture Spider-Man ever having a shot in the Avengers on screen.

@IUH it would be intriguing on how they would portray it though. To me that is.

It would not be a good idea to "intertwine" this into the Avengers, nor would Sony ever do that.

@Lane lol Garfields a great actor and it would be intriguing if they actually intertwine the story with the avengers.

Also in regards to the web shooters... I almost thought they were going to be used in Spider-man 2 during that scene where Spider-man falls. Despite the fact that it was only because he couldn't concentrate and was losing his self-confidence, I think that would've been the perfect spot for the addition. But you have to remember that with them not being organic, it causes more issues with story (in terms of what and what not to use, what to cut, edit, etc.). And this film already seems like its going to be packed to the brim in that department.

@Oblivion330: "...but I absolutely do not like the idea of Tobey and Kirsten playing the parents. That's completely dumb and not what the fans want."
Sorry, but those "fans" you're referring to are the same ones who are against this reboot. I'm going to f*cking scream if they actually do decide to cross Spider-man over to The Avengers with Garfield in the role, because regardless of whether this reboot is a hit, The Avengers most certainly will be. And I for one do not want Garfield's Spider-man anywhere near it.

Agreed with @gandoff, lol. But, my speculation is that this reboot will likely be as much of a surprise hit for the studio as "The Karate Kid" reboot was... Not including the fact that it has the Spider-man name going for it... bleh.
