Spider-Man Spin-Off Venom Coming Together?

Movie Picture
Will a different Spidey web be spun(-off)? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is looking to branch off of its Spider-Man franchise with a sequel centering on the villain Venom. However, it seems that there may be a long road ahead for this film.

The trade reports that Sony had ordered a draft from Mean Creek scribe Jacob Estes, although now it is reported that the studio wants a different take on the subject and is now searching for different writers for this potential spin-off.

It seems that casting is up for grabs as well. While Topher Grace portrayed the Venom character in Spider-Man 3 last year, but the part is being offered around town and it is believed that the studio doesn't feel that Grace can anchor a summer tentpole release.

Sony does have Spider-Man 4 in development as well, but the pic isn't slated for release until 2011.

Come On!! Carnage & Venom MUST appear in a Spiderman movie together! They are spiders arch-enemies! 10mins Venom appearance in SM3 is NOT bloody enough!!!

Sandman works better in a venom story, though. I think instead of teaming up w/ him in that cheesy battle at the end, venom and sandman should have fought in this wicked battle(have it all planned out in my head) and then venom kills sandman by biting him. That happened in an alternate world story of spidey in the comics. Sandman's body started breaking down and he went to spidey in a last chance for redmption and asked spidey to tell his mom he loves her. I think that should have happened in spidey 3, but instead of his mom, his wife and kid. That would have been more sympathetic than having spidey forgive him and then sandman flies off into the wind lol

i hope carnage is the main villain and lizard is the 2nd one.

The Spider-Man movies are aimed at kids because of Raimi, and not really taken seriously, he's the worst fan there is.

Venom better be done right, and be a darker film. There is NO WAY they can do Venom justice by aiming him at kids, too.

The Lizard will be in Spider-Man 4, but I really hope they kill Gwen Stacy and introduce Felicia Hardy in that film so they can start setting up the Black Cat. Stacy is a very unneeded character at this point, Raimi was an idiot for wanting to include her in 3. If he wanted a love triangle he could have introduced Hardy in 3. That would have been closer to the comics. Raimi said he didn't bring in Gwen Stacy for Spider-Man 1 because her story is her death in the comics...well, that's not G-rated enough, so they cancelled her character ... only to BRING HER IN in Spider-Man 3!!???!! Sam Raimi needs to get the boot for Director's Chair for 4. He obviously has no idea what he's doing or intentionally f*cking up the story. And either one is bad as can be.

They should "redo" Spiderman 3...from Venom's perspective...except with better dialogue, no dancing, and new actors playing the main characters. Maybe get rid of Sandman (even though he was okay I'm just glad they didn't choose The Vulture lol) and replace Sandman with The Lizard.

  7. The Dark Knight

sounds a lot better than spider man 3

But Chad has a good point, but who will play Spidey???
    That's an even bigger question.

  9. The Narrator: The Better Man

They should have Venom, as a vigilante, which is basically what he is, just eviler. And he doesn't play nice at all, and is a criminal, but when a carnage comes out, then Venom, out of jealousy, fear, and a willingness to be best, will have to defeat Carnage. That would be sweet, all the while running from this secret group that wants what he has.
And he still needs to have a bit of a life, he can't always be venom.

    Somewhat different Chad...good thinking.

I think this movie would be cool if it was strictly from Venom's perspective as he fights Spiderman throughout the film instead of Spiderman as the lead. That would be very original.

i real feel i have to say that spider man 3 is a really poor film off the top of my head theres the scene where the meteor hits earth right next to the main hero, then we find out sandman killed peters uncle and was forgiven soon after, the obvious one is venom not haveing the screen time....and where the hell was the tongue, then theres the gay dance montage and lastly venoms death...poor, and all this is probably down to the director not likeing the caracter in the first place
All i am saying is this should be given to someone with full understanding of venom, he needs to be furious not slightly mad

Of course I love this character and would love that someone compensated me for the crap fest that Spiderman 3 was. But it could very well turn out even worst. I'll just wait to see more until I actually decide if it's good news. (director and actor mainly). Another problem is that Spiderman has to appear in this movie because he needs an antagonist. Who will play his part? Is it possible to make Spiderman a secondary character? Weird.

    i love venom

but he shouldn't be the only symbiote in the pic

B3njamin.... are you illiterate???? I flat out said Spiderman 3 sucked (in our opinion), but it DID NOT FAIL. All you did was reiterate what I said. "Who gives a sh*t if Spiderman 3 made alot of money. It still sucked." DUH!!!!

It sucks! But it did not fail. Simple.

Who gives a sh*t if Spiderman 3 made alot of money. It still sucked. Venom is one of the most awesome characters and he deserves his own movie. I agree with Spaz, hopefully it has nothing to do with Spiderman 3 and Topher stays out of it.

  18. MovieBuff

Spaz... why do you (and some others) say Spiderman 3 failed? True... you (and I) didn't like the movie because it felt like they rushed through it without giving us a real good story. And Venom hardly came out.... BUT Spiderman 3 is the 15th ranked grossing movie of ALL-Time (soon to be 16th as The Dark Knight should surpass it this weekend). It grossed over 336 million dollars. That's more than Transformers and Iron Man brother... and I know you liked those movies MORE than Spiderman 3 (I know I did).

In short... Spiderman sucked in OUR OPINION, but... don't say it failed. Cause it didn't.

Vemon is cool.I guess the studio felt he wasn't good enough in Spider-Man 3.A set alone sounds fine and could work(somehow). As for Spider-Man 4, I don't know what's really going on with that.

they'd have to get a good actor to play Venom and Spider-man needs to have some part in it

John C. Reilly would make an interesting Eddie Brock/Venom. Venon is an "anti-hero" so why cast a f*cking Brad Pitt.

  25. Spadicus

I'm familiar with Spider-man and I do agree with you, somewhat. By "relating," I think they were trying to develop him more as an anti-hero that goes down a similar path as Peter Parker, but makes different choices. Had there of been a longer run time, less pressure from Marvel and without so many other characters to develop, we might have seen more of Eddie's side of the story and the film may not have failed so much.

    4 years agoby @spazFlag

  26. T.Clark

The whole point of topher grace for spidey 3 was to have him relate to peter, like a more bitter version of peter, which is why the symbiote grasps on to him. But yes, for this film, i think it should be separate

    4 years agoby @insertusernamehereFlag

  27. Spadicus

This movie will excel only under a number of circ*mstances. 1) Topher Grace doesn't return to play Eddie Brock and 2) the plot pays no mind to that of Spider-man 3, and serves as it's own separated, independent story.

And for god sakes, make him bigger!

i dont know about this, dont get me wrong out of the entrire marvel universe venom is a bad boy, same with carnage but this semms like there just tryin to give us what we want so eventually we will except how much spiderman 3 sucked but the francise will still move on regardless.
just sayin i bet this project will land in the hands of some with no real love for this caracter again (raimi) an it will be a mess, with another origin story slightly differant from 3.
a venom an carnage finale would be good
