Mary Jane Watson will not appear in the Spider-Man reboot
Last month we reported that actress Emma Stone was playing Mary Jane Watson, then a few days later it was revealed that Emma Stone was actually playing Gwen Stacy. There was speculation that both Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy would appear in the remake, although now it seems James Vanderbilt's screenplay never included the Mary Jane Watson character at all. There was apparently talk of bringing Mary Jane into the project, although they ended up sticking with Gwen Stacy as the lead female character.
We reported yesterday that Martin Sheen will play Uncle Ben and Sally Field is in talks to portray Aunt May. However, Sally Field's deal is still in the very early stages.
The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

bottomeline, stick to the plan make it better than the first Trilogy. Make sure the actors you allocated for the comic book characters can deliver the roles given. In Short, Don't mess it up! Capiche! :)

This is how I remember it from the comic books.
film one: Gwen died,
film two: spidy was alone for a little while with no love interest,
film three: then MJ came along

so i guess keep Gwen till she dies then bring in MJ afterwards, which kind of makes sense but not really, seeing as how they were both in Peters life, MJ longer then Gwen, but he dated Gwen Before MJ...ok im getting tired or typing " Gwen " and " MJ ", so yeah im done :]

Sam Raimi did a Fantastic job with the first two Spider-Man films, I think that he just tried to cram to many story elements into the final film, which in turn ended his run as the driver of the franchise.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@J.A. This is good news. You were complaining about the script, so this means that the otehr writers brought onto the project (there were 3 of them I know of) changed things, hopefully making it better.

This is bull, you mean to tell me they completely annhilated MJ from the script....
She was in the spiderman 4 screenplay / treatment by Vanderbilt, which all the Spiderman reboot technically is Spiderman 4 in the Ultimate universe

I hope MJ will be in here at least. Hope this movie will be good either way!

i think they shouldn't cut the character out all together, even just a little side role would be cool, now who to play her, I'd say emmy rossum or Leighton Meester

She should still be in it. Otherwise, they'll probably end up introducing her in a half assed way like they did Gwen in the last series. Both characters are pivotal to the Spidey mythology. The positive, though, is that this will give Gwen her time to shine, something she didn't have last time.

@ejk1, @CBF & @Narrator No I don't bother, but now I know! thanks. The only spider-man series I actually followed until like 2 years ago was Ultimate Spider-man. Noobish I know but they were funny. (Not as hilarious as Deadpool of course)

@CBF and @Narrator, that's because they don't bother looking into the books history.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@CBF, I just read your past comment. I basically reposted what you said. Weird how people, since they saw the film series involving MJ first, and because MJ is so iconic to Spidey in the comics, they seem to forget all about Gwen. :/

This is better with Gwen instead of MJ, more true to the original comics.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@B3njamin, Gwen Stacy was the original love interest. More so than MJ. She died, and Parker ended up with Watson. If anything, they are trying to be true to the basic source material, not demolish it.

So get the cute girl who has always been a red head to be a blonde chick who is not the main characters main love interest? Next thing we know Uncle Ben doesn't die in this remake
