Spider-man reboot is looking gritty
According to studio insiders, Sony was working on both Raimi's Spider-Man 4 and the new origin story from James Vanderbilt, who wrote Zodiac. The original plan was to keep the Spider-Man gang together for one last film in 2011 before rebooting the series in 2012. When it became clear that Raimi would not be able to make the summer 2011 release date planned for Spider-Man 4, the studio opted to scrap Spider-Man 4 altogether, and focus solely on the series reboot.
Vanderbilt's remake script was also said to be a grittier take on Peter Parker's world.
This time around, the series will place Peter Parker in a more contemporary setting, as a teenager battling today's issues.
Spider-man 4 is in development .
The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

I wonder if they are gonna show his origin again... since they know that we all know... I guess it all depends on how the script starts eh? I wonder if the whole first movie is him in highschool

I say give us a good PG-13 Spider-Man "Marvel Animated Feature" instead. Starting over with live-action films will be a painstaking long journey, and I can't see it lasting long enough to get anywhere good, like Parker's adult years.

I agree with you 100% Illuminati, the only good things really about Spiderman were Molina and Dafoe. You couldn't top Molina's Doc Ock, it was just perfect. I mean, unless you get a guy who looks identical to the comic Doc Ock, like Elton John, then maybe haha.

this doesn't make much sense. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought the actors were only contacted for 3 films. If that's the case why bother getting them together again for one more, THEN reboot the series???
I'm actually interested in the NEW direction they are trying to take this, minus the crying bitch TOBEY and the rest of the losers. DAFOE & MOLINA were the only ones that brought some OSCAR level acting to the table...

I fully agree, Fallen. I want to see more of his story as well. Are wen meant to be lieve that if they start over from story #1 that we will get to see any of that, 6 movies later? I highly doubt it, and that sucks. I was hoping for 6 Spidey flicks, no matter how campy. I eventually wanted to see Black Cat, The Lizard, Electro, Parker become a teacher, and Parker/MJ get married.

Comrade, I agree. I mean I was still a Freshman when Spiderman 2 came out. Now I'm 21. So I have sort of grown in my teenage years with Spidey and I understand that High school is hard etc. I fully back you up. I am simply saying they can put more focus into the characters revolving around Peter as well and not just him. Because what happens to the ones he loves affects him, and his character changes (and portrayal by whomever) greatly affect the outcome of the movie. So I still don't fully support this whole going back to high school plan. I want to see him live with his slogan (with great power comes great responsibility) for years and see him become a teacher and continue it there. Thats me.

-Comrade-: Who's forgetting that? I agree 100%, which is why it doesn't make sense to me that they're rebooting this when the first film did such a great job of capturing that aspect.

Put me in the Zodiac was great camp, too. Definitely not Fincher's best, but certainly worthy of his calibre.

Again...public schools in New York are insanely different than anywhere else. I should know, I spent half my life in them. Plus, Parker is being raised by his single Aunt, he's a nerd, on top of all the other social aggravations that come with being a teenager. Unless you're the captain of the football team in Butthole, Kansas, you probably understand how trying the American high school is. Not to mention that you were raised with a decent sense of moral responsibility, so all those kick ass superpowers don't mean "Woo, I can steal sh*t" to you, they mean "It's up to me to protect people."
With great power comes great responsibility. It always amazes me when people forget that f*cking insanely essential part of the Spider-Man mythos.

Tadah. The fanboys agree with me on Zodiac. :P
And thanks Zany. I mean if they want this to be contemporary yet still fun and witty DJ is pretty diverse. I mean, The Salten Sea, and Taking Lives, to movies like Disturbia, and then Eagle Eye. So if he humored up a bit I think he could pull it off..

Now that I think about it... I have to agree with Chad down there. The Spider-Man franchise could use a bit of a face lift. I'm all for darker, or grittier, and more realistic characters and stories.
And Ruby why the hate for Zodiac? I mean to each their own opinion but that movie was great.

Spiderman is dead.... You cant take this to reboot unless some real time has past to do it. There was so much more they could have did with this Spiderman line, but was dumped in the studio's wishes to be more like Batman. These idiots dont realize they made as much as the Batman reboots. So why do a reboot when you several otheer villians to go with, many diffrent possiable comic line angles they could build off of, and a cast that has come to embody what Spiderman is all about. Mark my words, this reboot might be good, but this decicion is the begining of the fall of what was built to be the symbol of comic films.

I think this series should be left alone to simmer for a few years. A remake at this point seems just weird, Im mean 2002 wasnt that long ago. whats next remaking the Harry Potter series before the last installment comes out? and I agree a more gritty version of spiderman with todays issues, I dont see much difference between now and ten years ago when I was in highschool.

"Being an average teenager isnt really all that gritty. I mean even with super powers, I dont think gritty would be the word to describe it..."
Exactly. The first Spider-Man movie came out in 2002, which is the year I graduated highschool. I still know a lot of highschool kids and it sure as hell doesn't seem like they're dealing with any different issues than I was at their age. What exactly is "contemporary...dealing with today's issues" supposed to mean.
When I picture a "gritty" film, it's a Batman or Daredevil style, shot mostly at night with a lot of rain and garbage and fighting so hard you can feel it through the screen. It would lose all of the humor, unless it was made in a similar style as Guy Richie's Sherlock Holmes, which was sort of funny and gritty at the same time.

Being an average teenager isnt really all that gritty. I mean even with super powers, I dont think gritty would be the word to describe it... So farewell spidey. We'll meet again when some brainy exec decides it's time for a teamup flick.
Btw... wasn't 'Zodiac' more applauded for it's direction by Fincher, and it's top notch cast than it was for the screenplay. Wasn't Zodiac just an adapted screenplay from a novel?
If these points have been discussed I apologize for my ignorance.

First off.Zodiac was a fairly good film,I own it and watch it as often as possible without getting tired of it.
Secondly.I could really care less about this.Spider-Man this,Spider-Man that. It's really wearing on my nerves. As is all the all the other Superhero and vampire stuff.Plus SM3 really ruined it for me.

Ruby...when Spider-Man was first created, he was a teenager in high school. Stan Lee wanted a superhero that younger people could relate to, a superhero that struggled with everyday problems while still fighting crime...that's what this movie seems to be going for.

Did somebody really say, "the director [David Fincher] of the worst movie I've ever seen...Zodiac?" Fincher's one of the best working director's in Hollywood, and while Zodiac was not my favorite David FIncher film, it certainly does not deserve a hell-bashing. In fact, the only one who deserves a hard time is the person who wrote that asinine comment. Who are you?
Chad, of course the fight scenes should be intense and realistic. That's a given. People read "gritty" and automatically think "dark," equating the new approach to The Dark Knight, or a Michael Mann filtered film.
And blabbering idiots? I'm offended. Clearly, I blabber - but an idiot? How dare you. ;P
Fallen, Caruso's an interesting choice. That could actually work.
CBF, I read the screenplay a few years ago, and to put it lightly, the world should be glad Raimi took over when he did. I see your point - which, was similar to mine - that Cameron has an affinity with the character. As shown with Avatar, you don't question James Cameron and passion projects.
And, for some reason, despite his Spidey history, I can't see Kevin Smith directing, nor do I want him too.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Whoa whoa whoa....uhm big WTF?
#1. Zodiac was brilliant. I mean to each their own, but saying it's the worst movie ever (which it isn't), shows you are one of those teens that over exaggerate everything. Example: "I had the worst day ever. My parents chewed me out, my phone died so i had to walk home and my boyfriend broke up with me." Which shows you are also a stereotype. Thats what I think.
#2. This is from the WRITER of Zodiac, the screenplay that is. Not the DIRECTOR. There's a difference.
#3. The first three weren't all garbage, just the third to most. I mean really, be more open minded if at all possible about the past and future spidey flicks...
Oh and one more thing"
#4. If they actually did hand off the series to Fincher (which would have almost no chance) the series would be pretty f*cking kick ass!
Other than that you comment could be right and this could be utter garbage but I doubt it will be pure dog sh*t in any case. I mean no disrespect but if you come on to nag on this site, have some material to back you opinion up, or say it in a more respective and non repulsive and childish way. :) Okay?

As if the original three weren't awful enough they go and hand off what could have been an awesome new take on Spiderman to the director of the worst movie I've ever seen in my life...Zodiac. REALLY? Peter Parker in high school...REALLY? This is going to suck worse than Tobey Maguire.

CBF, I know he had a script and everything I heard it sucked and he wasn't chosen to do it. So yeah I really don't want him making this movie. He'd make a helluva lot of eye candy but no real story.
And Comrade... sadly you are right. It might be all young people, the cast (save Ben May and Simmons etc) the crew director... But we can dream and hope for the best. I'd still love a Fincher version if not DJ Caruso is a different approach.
