Spider-Man Drops J. Jonah Jameson

J. Jonah Jameson is not featured in the Spider-Man reboot
Marc Webb's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot is currently filming in Los Angeles, and it seems the production will not include a colorful character from previous movies. J. Jonah Jameson, the editor of The Daily Bugle newspaper and Peter Parker's boss, does not appear in the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.

J.K. Simmons portrayed Jameson in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. We reported in October that actors such as Mad Men's John Slattery and Sam Elliott were in contention for taking over the role.

It isn't clear why the character was omitted from the reboot. However, we do know The Daily Bugle will have a presence in the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot with these set photos that debuted online earlier today, one of which features a Daily Bugle delivery truck.

The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

If he is not working for the Bugle I will be okay with Jameson not being in the movie. If is working for the Bugle I will be super pissed. That's like having a Batman movie without Alfred: It just shouldn't happen.

Well it does not really matter, if anything the movie can focus on one aspect of his life at a time. Then when the sequel comes out they can show another part of is life. As for his suit I think that it will evolve through-out each film. I think in the last film we will see the spidey suit we all know and love. If its anything like I think its going to be, we maybe in for an awesome trilogy. Only thing that worries me is the action in the movie since this is Webbs first action movie. The action scenes in the Ramini films were off da chain lol

The removal of Jameson is probably a very good indicator of how little of an influence Marvel has in the production of this reboot.

I sort of figured this might be the case, as they're already shooting and he hadn't been cast yet. No big deal. If the entire movie is going to be him in high school it makes sense Jameson won't play much of a part in it.

I'm still not worried. The story isn't based around JJJ, so while the character will make a nice addition eventually, him not being in this one would not bother me.

id rather they save Jameson for a sequel then rush and get any ole actor to play him in this film, they have to get it right, J.K got it perfect as Jameson :D

Even in Ultimate Spider-Man he showed up early, Issue #7 or 8 i believe...

  21. The Narrator: The Better Man

Agreed @incmob. If this proves true, which I doubt since no source was listed (just like I called fowl with the First Class photo), I don't think the absence of Jameson in the first film (if not now he'll come in later in the franchise) will really hinder the film.

although if this rumor is indeed true (agree with @Narrator in that aspect) or if it is fact, it dissapoints me, but does not let me down. although JJ is associated with the whole spider man lore, i dont feel that it is entirely essential. besides if that is a good way to develop the relationships and characters in this film then i am all for it... JJ just seems like he would be filler or just a character expected to be in it. I loved J.K simmons portrayal, but didnt feel it was completely necessary to move along the story except for the fact that peter needed a job. It seems this film already has alot of characters and i would rather them focus on those relationships then completely get lost with the addition of new ones.

There is no source listed, no citing. I don't buy this at all, sorry folks. Sure this could be set before he gets a job at the Bugle, but seriously, I just don't buy it till it's confirmed.
