Sony puts in a last minute bid for the Terminator franchise
The studio is keeping mum but a source close to the bidding has confirmed that Sony put in a bid Thursday. This was the final day for submitting offers.
Lionsgate came in last month as the first bidder for the rights to the franchise. They offered $15 million and a 5% cut of future gross receipts.
Halcyon Group made the franchise available in September. The auction for all Terminator assets, which encompass the rights to future Terminator films, TV series, DVDs and merchandise, is going to be held Monday at the offices of FTI Consulting in Los Angeles. Two days later there will be a bankruptcy court hearing.
If Lionsgate doesn't get the franchise, it will take in $750,000 as a breakup fee from whoever wins.
Halcyon bought the Terminator rights from Mario Kassar in 2007. They then "filed for Chapter 11 as a result of a dispute with hedge fund Pacificor, which financed the purchase."
The Terminator was released October 26th, 1984 and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, Linda Hamilton, Paul Winfield, Lance Henriksen, Bess Motta, Earl Boen, Rick Rossovich. The film is directed by James Cameron.

I wouldn't mind LIONS GATE getting their hands on a biggie like TERMINATOR.

Terminator Salvation was Warner Bros. Not Lionsgate.

Lionsgate gave enough leeway to McG. I used to hate the guy till he totally surprized me with T.SALVATION. It wasn't great but it was a good start to a new direction.
Lionsgate in the past has ALWAYS taken risks where other established studios have steered away to formulaic genre flicks. They had the balls to make small films like SAW, AMERICAN PSYCHO, IRREVERSIBLE, NARC, when SONY couldn't be bothered.
Now that L.GATEs can afford a biggie like TERMINATOR, they want to buy them out? Bugger off SONY!
TERMINATOR vs ROBOCOP was just a comic & a game. let's leave it that way...
as for ROBOCOP i'm itching to see what Aarronofsky does with that...that's a reboot with some REAL potential. If someone can do sci-fi with dark/drama it's HIM!

I am okay with Lionsgate, can see an excitement for Terminator sequels and doubtful of Sony to bring this franchise in a go... but what really fits well for this type is Fox's, hope they'll pity this one if they've mind for this title.

The Narrator: The Better Man
wow. What's with the McG hate. Have you seen his past films. he did pretty damn well on this movie (save casting Bale) and I think he needs another go at it. He was planning a trilogy and this was just a starter. it was going to get more and more dark and epic, to the point where we finally see the future Cameron had us see in the first two. So I am simply saying let him keep going. judging from this one thread about TS, 5/6 of the people on the thread loved it. So I say let em have it.
As for Sony having it well, that could be an interesting possibility.

At this point, I don't care who's label is stamped on the film. I just want to see the film. Move forward, and while you're at it, throw McG into a lake.

Yes it would. But it will never happen. And if it did, it would be terrible.

Twisted Smile (The Untold Smile)
You know what I really want rather than a straight Terminator sequel, is a movie adaptation of Robocop vs. Terminator. Now that would get me pretty excited.

Better Lionsgate than Sony, they usually are not afraid of risks which is somethnig this franchise needs

The only way i can swallow another terminator try is if it's something like this "James Cameron Presents a J.J. Abrams Film."
