Sony Sets Two Writers on Flash Gordon

A hot comic strip property is speeding through development. According to The Hollywood Reporter Sony has hired screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to write the adaptation of Flash Gordon.

Flash Gordon, which started as a comic strip by Alex Reynonlds 75 years ago, concentrates on a polo player who is abducted and taken to the planet of Mongo where he battles the villainous Ming the Merciless with his pals Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov.

Breck Eisner is set to direct the film. The project was originally to be developed at Universal, but when the film languished in development, the rights reverted back to the Hearst newspaper empire and its King Features Syndicate, where Sony obtained the rights from.

Flash Gordon was released in 2011. The film is directed by Breck Eisner.

I agree. George Lucas to direct. ILM for visual effects. TO SLIM: I understand how you feel. I loved the original, but as you said yourself, the 'children of society" will never know it - unless there is a remake and it is a great story that needs to be told to todays youth. They are missing out on all those great old stories - like the original 'Journey To The Center Of The Earth' - the recent movie sucked. A cheesy 'spin-off'.

I vote a classic Steven Spielberg/Goerge Lucas team up. Think Indiana Jones meets Star Wars. Maybe not, but they were a great team. No reason it can't work here.

Yeah Moviebuff the orginal was hilarious! I love it it. It came out on DVD a few months back, so corny it rocks! I dont think it need s a remake but whatever I'll rent it, its hard to beat classic 80's cheese flicks.

The 1980 version with Max Von Sydow and Sam J. Jones had corny special effects but the story was good. If done well, this could be good.

And don't forget future James Bond Timothy Dalton also appeared in the movie... although he sucked as James Bond hahahaha

the 80's flash gordon did wonderful things for my imagination, including the effects that ming's daughter had on the pleasure sensors in my brain.

itll be a hard one to top, but id watch the remake when it came out on dvd. i wouldnt go see it in the theatre unless they surprise me with how well they do it.
