According to Variety, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked all media rights internationally (except for U.K. TV) and domestic home entertainment rights to the documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama.

The movie begins with the announcement of President Obama's candidacy to his eventually election and inauguration

The film was produced by Edward Norton's Class 5 Films. It was directed by Amy Rice and Alicia Sams.

"From the start, it was very important to us to share this film with as broad an international audience as possible, and we're really thrilled to be partnered with Sony in trying to achieve this," Norton offered.

The film will come to theaters through HBO Documentary Films.
