Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the rights to the Stephen Chow fantasy comedy, A Hope; the actor wrote and directed the film as well.

The film, which was shot last year in China, is embellished with state-of-the-art visual effects, notes The Hollywood Reporter; it's about a poor laborer (Chow), his young son and their enlightening encounter with a strange new pet.

No release date has been set for A Hope.
