Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt will write Snow and the Seven for Disney
Disney has been developing the project since 2002, which takes a much different approach to the original story. The movie is set in 19th Century China and centers on an English woman who travels to Hong Kong for her father's funeral. When she discovers the nefarious plans of her stepmother, the woman escapes into mainland China where she is taken in by seven renowned warriors.
Francis Lawrence has long been attached to direct the project, with Natalie Portman circling the project for some time as well. It isn't clear if she will still star in this new adventure, since she recently became pregnant and might not be able to train for the movie, which features several different disciplines of martial arts.
No production schedule has been released for Snow and the Seven. Both Universal and Relativity Media are prepping their Snow White projects as well. Unviversal's Snow White and the Huntsman recently added actor Viggo Mortensen to star as the Huntsman. Relativity Media's The Brothers Grimm: Snow White will be directed by Tarsem Singh, although no cast members have committed to the project yet.
The Order of the Seven comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Saoirse Ronan. The film is directed by Michael Gracey.

@supes... totally agree with you on that... although it may have to do with the fact that they are not dwarves in the film, although even snow white and the seven warriors would have been a better title... but the title is just lame that they came up with... it would have been like "charle and the factory" "alice in the land" or even "indiana and the crusade"

I mean I know Portman did great in "Black Swan" but not everyone is just begging to cast her in any movie to get attention.

I want to say f*ck this idea (and Dave is right, over-saturation isn't good, either), but then I see Natalie Portman's name and I just.... well you know how I am with her.
