@cyn-de-harven LOL yeah well, i've got a lot of time, and there's nothing else i'd wanna devote my life to.
This is movie web isn't it?? lol A site dedicated to movie, tv and dvd news? I mean i don't think this site was for people who just have a simple hobby for watching a few movies here and there right? The people who sign up to this site and look at it are movie maniacs! lol -- Oh and if you are here just because movies are a hobby to you, How dare you! Blasphemy! LOL

Well, that definitely sounds like me too, Phil, complete and utter obsessed dvd-watching, cinema-attending nutter LOL But I'm still not sure I can my numbers up around 10,000. Then again...it could be surprising.

@cyn-de-harven LOL i said it was an estimation. Hundreds of thousands is Tarantino's territory lol That man has seen movies that I myself haven't even heard of much less seen haha. No but if i had to round off between what and what - from the time i was 5 years old til now, i would say close to or AT 10 thousand. I mean we are talkin goin to the movies every weekend, renting movies every friday and saturday from the time i was a youngster, and then as I got older, into my teens and had my own money, going to the movies and renting movies spilled into my weekdays and not just during the weekend. It became a daily occurance. Started buying and collecting movies when i was..17, 18. Somewhere around there. And I haven't stopped since then.

I've watched well over 1,000 movies Im sure. But HUNDREDS of thousands?? Come on, Dude...

@dan1 Well, i'm gonna be 29 on the 23rd of this month. It blows my mind to think i've watched WELL over 1,000 movies. I've already got just over 1,000 dvds in the shelves of my entertainment center (which i'm quickly running out of room in lol). And that's not considering the other movies i've seen at the theatre or the countless other dvds i've rented at like Blockbuster, or the movies i can't find at the video store so i've watched on Netflix lol. I've had people especially my mother ask me why i buy or see so many movies. I just tell them well at least i know where my money's going haha.

In order to be an expert at something visually available (Movies, Sports, TV) one has to watch 10,000 or more hours of said media.

Well, I'm 24, and I doubt I've even watched over a 1,000 movies yet.

@dan1 lol yeah that is a sh*t ton. It's an estimation of course but, it's DEFINITELY in the thousands. Ask me about any film, most likely i've seen it. Sometimes i'll go to rent something or get a movie from netflix but, it's difficult to find something i haven't seen before lol. I saw my first movie at the theatre when i was 5 and from then on i never stopped watching movies. When i was 5 and saw my first movie i couldn't really comprehend what i was seeing but, it was an adventure for me, so i grew to love and have a passion for film at a young age.

@Phillip Wilcox You've watched hundreds of thousands of movies? How old are you, 200 years old? That seems like it would take forever to watch that many. Maybe my math is off, but that's a sh*t ton.

@Diaigma You're welcome - Well it's a delight to know those jaded youngsters don't usually come back during school months lol. And i totally agree with the last sentence of your paragraph :)

@cyn-de-harven lol well, i happen to think, from the hundreds of thousands of films i've seen through out my life thus far, that cinema has come a long way. Back then they did have the technology to create the things that we can now. Now days, our imagination to become realized is without bounds. Compared to back in the golden age of cinema where even though people could be creative, sadly there were limits to what could be done as far as effects. Or even what could be shown. But now, a lot more things can be shown, a lot more of the impossible is possible. The world of cinema is in a constant state of evolution, so that now anyone with a camera and a few friends and some software, and you could make your own actual profressional looking film, with digital effects and everything. That's proof that it has come a long way lol.

@Phillip Wilcox - I totally get what you're saying. Notice too that a lot of the youngsters, trolls, and attention hounds here usually have 20 + lists, write one paragraph (or one sentence) reviews, rate every movie as high as they can or as low as they can, especially for movies that HAVEN'T COME OUT YET! - rant over - and after two years of being a frequent user here, I find this activity slows down a lot during the school months. And the less tenacious of them tend to forget and never come back. My advice to them . . . pay attention during classes that involve "writing" and apply yourself, please.
I agree with your statements entirely. Your first round wasn't as clear to me. Thank you.

@Philip Wilcox. In many ways, we've come far..but then sometimes I'll see an old Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin and think - 'we haven't come very far at all'. lol. In much the way, to me, that a towering skyscraper or the fake island of Dubai cannot compare to Catherine's Palace in St. Petersburg or the Palace of Versaille.
Completely off the topic. Sorry. I'm always comparing what we think of as creative and clever today, to the accomplishments of yesterday.

@Phillip Wilcox:You make a very good arguement in both post. But as Err said. Most of the people you see do it are kids.Kids that, now a days, only want sex, blood and guts in their films....or sparkly vampires.I for one always give any movie a chance, even if the trailer looked a little...meh.You said it best.Cant judge a book by its cover. So my suggestion...ignore it if you can.Let it roll off your back.Thats what I do.

@Diaigma Wasn't trying to come off pompous but merely voicing my frustration at the people that judge a film before even seeing it. And i've seen a lot of comments, not just on here, but other places as well. I mean can we really judge a an hour and a half to 2 hour film by a bunch of clips taken from the film that are just mashed together in a 1-2 minute time frame? That's ridiculous if you ask me lol. A trailer is suppose to get you excited to see the movie. Not sh*t all over it haha! I don't know, that's just what i think.
I have a passion for film. And i may get some flack for this but, if you really think about it, there's no such thing as a "bad" movie. There's just different tastes in movies from different people. Because i mean think about it. While one group of people may like one film, another group may not. It's just a different taste in movies. Now, are there films where I think it's should've been all put together differently or wished the story would've taken a different turn? Definitely, everyone feels that. But, it just bothers me that an artist will put everything they have into a movie, spending so much money, so much of their time and effort, all of their imagination just for a select group of punks to sit there, watch a 2 minute trailer and say sometimes verbatim: "Oh jeez, this one's gonna suck ass." lol What?? Come on! Give it a chance before you say you like it or not. Can't judge a film by a 2 minute mashup of clips lol. It's just not good sense.
And I never walk into a theatre with high expectations. The trailer is what initially hooks me into wanting to see the film, but i know that if I walk into a movie theatre with expectations, 90% of the time I will be let down. Which is what a lot of people do. They see a trailer, they get amped up to the point of thinking that the movie they're about to see; they do this weeks, sometimes months before the film is released, then when it is released and those people see it they end up walking out disappointed and say "Eh could've been better." Psh LOL
I don't know - People are very jaded about movies. Just think how far we've come! From silent pictures to the talkies, and now we're deep into the digital realm. It's extraordinary how far cinema has come.

So glad I'm not in LA anymore. Grew up there, though :P
Now, I love LA, but not the population, or the taxes. But I hear you. Traffic. I get that too.

@Diaigma Ha - unfortunately, that means we'll see less of them on here...but more traffic on the roads. I love the school holidays - it's one of the few times during the year that the streets of Los Angeles look...reasonable.

@PhilipWilcox While you make good arguments, the irony of your long winded speech is that it's targeted audience, the patience of a gnat, instant judgment crowd (aka most teenagers), won't take the time to read all that, and the message will be lost on them. Sometimes it's best to just ignore them, as previously suggested.
1 year agoby @dan1Flag
Err
i didn't read Phil's whole thing, but about half of it, and phil, you seem to be overlooking the fact that a lot of the people who frequent this place, in face a lot of the people you are referring to, are little kids, like between 12 and 19.
kids are gonna do what kids are gonna do, which often includes acting like they know everything and judging things they know nothing about.
your best bet is just to ignore them.
good speech though, and i agree with the parts that i read.

I would have read Philip's speech, but - damn - I thought I was long-winded. There is a lot of truth in what he says - can we not immediately say that an entire movie is good or bad, based on a trailer. On the other hand, don't they normally put the best bits in a trailer? lol

You have to remind yourself that some people like to talk big to make themselves look good but they end up watching the films as well. Some will hate the production, others will enjoy it but won't admit to it and some will enjoy it, it's the way of our world.
1 year agoby @zenderFlag
Diaigma
@Phillip Wilcox - well, thanks for that speech . . . . I'll bite :P
If a movie's good, then it's good, but there will always be bad movies. What's wrong if people express their opinion on that? Watch enough films and you gain a sixth sense about movies and can tell (for the most part) what will be worth a watch or not. By all means, watch EVERY movie you want. I just watched "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" recently. Tell me that's not a terrible movie with a straight face. Now I agree that people who "mindlessly" bash on movies in the making or not yet released ought to chill, and some of us here ARE contributing to entertainment in one form or another, or working their way in. In any case, I'm anticipating Skyline. So, thank you for the rant, but really, it makes you sound just as pompous as you're making the rest of us look.
