@jayaottley@bawnian-dexeus I've heard those rumors to about Naomi Harris playing Money Penny, but she declined and said her character is more of a "field agent Bond girl"

@pjwolsker: Yes, Marc Forster filmed such a scene in which Bond went to Guy Haines' estate where he found & killed Mr. White, then sat Haines down for an interrogation in his home. It was to be the final scene in "QoS," but Forster cut it because no decisions had yet been made as to what direction the saga would take, and thus because the producers were still unsure if Quantum would return or not, Forster decided not to kill off its lead villain, and capture the highest ranking Quantum member, as he felt it would constrict the next director & writer's creative choices on the off chance they wanted to continue the Quantum story. Hence, it was excluded from the dvd/blu-ray as a bonus feature. Jesper Christiansen who played White denounced the saga in June 2010, claiming he would never return to such a film, so that sorta forced the Quantum angle shut with White. So it's possible the completed scene could be the pre-credit scene of "SF" to conclude that story, and make it stark clear to the audience that they're done with it. But I doubt it. To date, the scene has not made its way online. However, the fact that Fiennes character is being kept on the down low suggests he'll be a recurring villain, or a nod to some major former foe, since if this is a stand alone (which by all accounts it is) then why bother keeping a sub-villain such a secret? I think therefore he could be the leader of Quantum, but that it will have no impact on the overall story. Like a little nod to the group to really tie off the story. Unless of course he is some 006 like character involved with M's past.

@slysnide Yeah, emotional as in this could be "the Fall" of MI6 as it crumbles due to whatever attacks happen and if it connects to M's past.

@ghostman: Barbara Broccoli said the title will have an emotional connection in the film, and yes @pjwolsker, that the storyline of the previous two films won't be continued here; which means that deleted scene of Bond killing Mr. White and interrogating Guy Haines could feasibly be the pre-credit scene of this film to close off that story. But I doubt it.

@shuabert Their will be no connection to the Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace storyline and I heard that Ralph Fiennes villain is going to be so secret, that not even is charater's name is being revealed! So i think Fiennes character will have a much larger villainous role than Bardem's villain.

I'd like to see this film be a comeback of the traditional Bond conventions (Moneypenny, Q, etc.). This is the shortest title in the Bond series, from a syllabic standpoint, which may be why it feels a little off to me.

@moviefreak97 QoS was good, not great. The blatant rip-off of Ms. Fields's death by oil was too similar to Jill Masterson's death in Goldfinger, and it annoyed me greatly.

Awesome news, I hope it's as good as Casino Royale. Quantum of Solace was a good movie, but it just didn't live up to the absolute epicness that was Casino.

@shuabert Great that I'm not the only one.

As for your question, no it's a stand-alone story. Sam Mendes confirmed that at a press conference. That's not to say there won't be hints at Quantum somewhere in the film, but it won't be a continued story arc.

@moviefreak97 No. I thought Quantum of Solace was great.

I like the symbolic nature of this title, that the "sky is falling" on MI6 because the threat is coming right to them.

Does anyone know if this is connected to the larger Quantum storyline from the first two movies? Is Javier Bardem's character part of that organization?

the name sounds too cheesy... i cant help but think of that low budget sci-fi movie that came out last year called "Skyline"..... and thats what skyfall sounds like; a low budget, direct to DVD sci-fi movie.. .

You know what, I'm starting to think that "Skyfall" is the name of attack operation that happens to MI6 in the movie, that would make sense if someone is trying to destroy HQ and Bond suspects that M has something to do with it? hmmm..makes you wonder who Bond can trust now ;)

Wow, this news is coming three months earlier than I thought. And a Monday production start date too. "QoS" had lots of locations and tons of action, yet didn't begin filming till January. Wonder why they're getting underway so early? I agree with @dan1 about the title. But I like the synopsis. M was really playing up the Queen Bee role in the predecessor and it'd be nice for karma to come back to get her.
