Simon West to Direct The Mechanic Remake

According to Variety, Simon West will be directing producer Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff's redo of The Mechanic.

In the 1972 film, which Winkler and Chartoff also produced, Charles Bronson played a hitman who takes the son of one of his victims under his wing. Jason Statham will be taking on the Bronson role in the remake.

Pre-rights to the film were recently on the block at the Berlin Film Festival last February.

The Mechanic was released January 28th, 2011 and stars Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Tony Goldwyn, Donald Sutherland, Jeff Chase, Mini Anden, James Logan, Eddie J. Fernandez. The film is directed by Simon West.

    i think Charles Bronson WAS the actual 'mechanic' in the 72 film.

    this was a damn good film from back in the day-1972-Charles Bronson was great at playing tough guy roles in the 70's-Jason Statham is perfect for this role-hopefully it will tun out to be a good remake of a classic film
