Simon Pegg Talks Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol
He wants to make it very clear that this is not a sequel, and he then compared it to what Sony is currently doing with The Amazing Spider-Man. Here are his thoughts.
"It's a rebirth for the series. In the same way with what they've done with The Amazing Spider-Man. I feel like it's a reinvigoration of this particular story. It was a series when it was on TV, so it's a story that can have so many iterations. There are so many adventures to get into with this team of impossible mission fighters. When a film goes into number four you're like, 'Isn't this just like flogging a dead horse now?' But what they've done is they've brought in a director who's never done live action before but who's had a 100 percent hit rate for his previous movies: Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and The Iron Giant are all just five star films. Brad Bird has just brought that sensibility to this film. And the fact that's it's Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, it's not Mission: Impossible 4."
To read more from Simon Pegg,
Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol was released December 21st, 2011 and stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Samuli Edelmann, Ivan Shvedoff. The film is directed by Brad Bird.

I like how he talks about the Amazing Spider Man as if he's seen it already.
I just watched Alfred Hitchc*ck's Notorious... Whoever wrote MI:2 totally stole the premise of the story, stealing a couple of scenes in the process.

Go see Paul, seen it 2 times already, great satire and a cool nod to sci-fi fans for it's references. As far as MI4 if Bird was not attach to this I wouldn't even bother. Hope it's better than that crap fest Knight and Day. One of last years worse!

So it's pretty much like how 'The Wolverine' is doing?

I LIVE for Brad Bird; the fact that he brought the brilliant Ratatouille (my favourite Pixar movie) and the aptly named 'The Incredibles' to the screen say it for him more than I ever could.
Add Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg ( who I also have nothing but love for) and we've got ourselves a winner.

If Tom Cruise is still in it, it's a sequel, not a reboot. Why can't they figure that out?

Agreed. I dont see how this can be considered a reboot. If anything it is a sequel to an original trilogy, that is hoping to span into its own trilogy with Renner. Granted I dont know what you consider that except for a sequel...

Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped for this movie like most. I'm just tired of everyone throwing out the phrases "reboot" or "reimaging." In a way it feels like they say these words to try and draw in none fans of the series, because no-one these days wants to see a part 4 for some reason. This can not be a reboot with characters we've come to know and love. If anything, call it a "stand alone sequel." A movie that technically is a sequel, but if you're a newby, you will not have to watch the last three films to understand and love this new one. Once again, can't wait for this one. I loved all the others.

I'm pumped for this. I have a feeling this is going to be pretty awesome and that Brad Bird is going to tear it up with his first live action flick!
Bring on the trailer!

I don't give a sh*t what it is, a reboot, remake, sequel, f*ck it. It's Mission Impossible and it has Cruise, Holloway, Pegg, and Renner. F*ck yeah.

i think reboot is a bit of a stretch considering Tom Cruise and Ving Rames are in this one, too. I have always thought that each movie had potential to be much more than it was. In the show they always rotated characters based on the mission and their skill set. in this one it seemed to be the same core team over-and-over again. i like the idea of Cruise's Hunt being a mainstay, but depending on the mission having multiple leaders or mainstays (such as adding renner to be a team leader)... then in one movie you get one team, another movie you get another, another movie you mix up some of those characters and all the while adding new ones to the mix. you could even add renner and cruise as team leaders for different assignments in the same mission in a movie or two. the possibilities are endless, but so far each director has kept it stationary. looking forward to some growth and change. LOVE Bird as the director too. can't wait for this.
