Silver Surfer Quarter Goes Into Circulation

Can you believe this? Idiocracy is slowly but surely living up to its prophecies. For the first time in history, a super hero will appear on a piece of legal tender. Yes, that's right. For a brief moment in time, the Silver Surfer will be replacing George Washington on the American Quarter.

20th Century Fox and the Franklin Mint have teamed up to make a coin that celebrates the release of Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer. And it's a pretty neat looking little twenty-five cent piece.

The Silver Surfer U.S. quarter has already been put into circulation. According to Variety, A total 40,000 of these coins have been slipped into the currency stream. So don't be surprised if you find one in your change dish in the next couple of weeks. Don't worry, though. You can spend it.

The head side of the limited edition collector's quarter features an image of the Silver Surfer. The back of the coin will look like a regular quarter. Those who happen across this special coin can go to the Web site printed on it and take part in the Search 4 Silver campaign.
