If what Sigourney Weaver said in a recent interview is true, the Avatar actress has spilled some serious spoilers. Channel 4 posted an interview with Weaver, who not only said she might appear in Ghostbusters 3, but let some story details slip as well. Be warned, these could be BIG spoilers, so if you don't want to know, stop here.

"I'm afraid to say it Ghostbusters 3 is happening, I hope people are excited about that. I don't know if I'm going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking 'would you read the script'.

"I know that my little son Oscar - who was kidnapped from me - I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster.

"I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don't think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he's a ghost."

Ghostbusters 3 is in development and stars Sigourney Weaver, Anna Faris, Eliza Dushku, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson. The film is directed by Ivan Reitman.

    Are you trying to be ANNOYING, film critic? I say lol to lighten the mood, so people aren't think I'm being an ass or anything, since words get lost in translation really easy on the internet, since you can't hear people's tones of voice and so forth. I don't know why you felt the need to kind of attack me there but whatever.

    And yeah that might have worked in the cartoons, but Murray as a Ghost just seems stupid to me. Nothing more to say about it really. I think it's the dumbest idea I've heard relating Ghostbusters that is. End of story. It's not my fault you don't have movie standards.

    Chad Vital, I compare Bill Murray to Johnny Depp in level of talent/range, not their personalities & resumes..and adding lol to puntuate your points doesn't make them any more cogent.

    Agree to disagree on Murray playing a ghost in Ghostbusters3...I think Murray portraying a ghost has So much comedic & story potential.

    I don't understand how you can compare Johnny Depp and Murray lol... completely different personality types and actors. Murray does mostly comedy, with a few indie flicks under his belt, whereas Depp as done weird, comedy, drama, action, you name it. Big differences. They are both really good, but that comparison wasn't a very good one lol. And Depp wasn't a cheesy ghost talking to the rest of the crew like Murray will be, that's just f*cking stupid altogether. This is a terrible idea and however thought of it should be slapped. I'm not even kidding. I'd rather see that movie based on Facebook than see Bill be a ghost, that's how stupid I think it is lol.

    Your opinion of Depp's Jack Sparrow character as his weakest is in the minority. Also, Depp's Sparrow character, based on his Rolling Stone friend - Keith Richards, was so anti-Disney in that it was so quirky, fey & a slurring drunk miscreant. Disney thought he was crazy and so, Depp became the first actor in a lead role to be nominated for a Best Actor Oscar in a Disney movie (Pirates of the Carribean).

    Bill Murray has the chops to pull off any role he's worn...it's hard to think of any misfires he's had due to his performance...he can play drama (Lost in Translation, Broken Flowers) and of course comedy in such greats as Rushmore, Stripes, Kingpin & ZombieLand. He's picky in his role choices, which every director seems to agree on...Murray as a lecherous, mischievious ghost will be great, it's just a matter of how much of his character will be featured/competing with the other main character parts...but, he's so talented at improv too, that the director will really have a tough time editing down the final cut of Ghostbusters3...Hooray for DVD special features!

    I felt Depps performance as Sparrow was one of the weakest of his career...he knew the role and film were Disney kid sh*t and so he treated the part as such....MONEY MAKER and thats it. Murray is a different beast alltogether, he can be hit or miss. Put him in a small limited role and let him improve a bit and he can really knock it out of the park i.e. Kingpin.

    I disagree...if the new script is having Bill Murray as a ghost, then that is just Comedy Gold!!

    Sure, there is the obvious line to cross over (pun intended) into bad camp, but, having said that, Bill Murray, like Johnny Depp (Pirates' campy/hilarious Jack Sparrow) , are the rare exceptional talents that could pull off that new plot twist. Think of Murray abusing his newfound ghost powers for mischief, mayhem & chasing women (his charaqcter is a horndog). Hell, Murray's new ghost could have a crisis of character / turning evil - then redeem himself story arc.

    Bill was great as a turning zombie in the awesome ZombieLand movie this year! I can't wait to see Ghostbusters3!!

    Why would they make him a ghost it makes no sense. The films were in a way, like Pixar films, aimed for kids but with adult dialogue so older people could like it too. That's what I loved about Ghostbusters. Making Bill Murray a ghost is just f*cking cheesy as sh*t. This isn't the cartoon here, there has to be some type of realism in all this. That's TOO campy, even for Ghostbusters lol. That's crossing the line, to the point where it just sounds ridiculous to me. I hope this is merely a rumor and not true or I will f*cking flip major sh*t. This is my bread and butter, and I'm not liking that part at all lol. Wow that ruined my day. :/

    I think that the spoiler may in fact be a true statement, if my susp*cions are correct which i think they are, i have been following GB3 since about 99 and there was a little known quote, cant remember if it was reitman or akroyd, but someone said that "Bill murray would not return to the series. the only way he would come back is if they made him a ghost." I am sure some of you heard this rumor on various "grain of salt" websites or media outlets, but i specifically remember an interview, and have tried to find the link with no success, and it was a few years ago, when there were countless dismisals and revisions of a GB3. Personally i hope it is not just an intro to new characters and that the old gang have just cameos or show at the beginning and then at the end. It was one of the greatest cast ensembles in my opinion and they were the charm of the first and even the second film. i just hope it does not turn into an "indiana jones" where we have been waiting for a new one for 20 years, and it falls flat from what it once was.
