Shutter Island Release Date Gets Pushed to 2010

Paramount Pictures is pushing the release date of Martin Scorsese's next film Shutter Island back to 2010. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, the Leonardo DiCaprio thriller was originally set for an October 2nd debut. Now, it won't hit theaters until February of 2010, which makes it ineligible for this year's coveted award race.

An insider close to the scheduling change told Deadline Hollywood Daily, ""It tested in the high 80s/low 90s and Scorsese even brought it down to 2 hours." The author of the article claims that Paramount doesn't have the financing to spend the $50 to $60 million necessary to market the film as an award contender. It is also noted that Leonardo DiCaprio wouldn't be able to promote the film internationally in time for its October 2nd release date.

Shutter Island is now set for a February 19th release date.

Shutter Island was released February 19th, 2010 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Michelle Williams, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson, Jackie Earle Haley. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese.

You'd think the studio would place a director like Scorsese and any film of his as high priority. Not to mention budgeting ahead of time and reserving money for something that is bound to win Oscar gold if he continues his string of hits in this decade alone.
