Shia LaBeouf Set for The Associate

Shia LaBeouf will play the title role in the bigscreen version of John Grisham's upcoming legal thriller The Associate for Paramount Pictures, which the studio has just acquired rights to.

According to Variety, LaBeouf will play a student who's about to graduate from Yale Law School when he's manipulated into accepting a job at a prestige law firm and given privileged information about a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.

The novel, Grisham's first legal thriller since 2005's "The Broker," will be published in January by Random House.

Par-based Di Bonaventura, who as an exec worked on the Grisham films A Time To Kill and The Client, received the book in the Middle East, where he and LaBeouf were shooting Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. There, they agreed to do it together.

No production date has been set.

Also I believe people have forgotten to go to a movie and just have FUN! Now a days everyone wants to be a critic. Personally, I do have fun when I watch Shia act and that in my book counts for a lot. But being a critic is needed sometimes.

Style is relative to the film/movie.

And killerman, nice reference to Con-Air with the white crusty remark.

Street haze your are joking, when you're talking about even stevens for his own style, right, lol, lol, lol. I never said he just did teen movies, but he sure does star in crappy movies. I didn't see kids going to see eagle eye either, but I did see some corny ass looking people, with their bags of popcorn getting ready for the ride of their lives, which they probably now know was nothing special and neither is this kid.

first off shia is not just a teen movie actor. i didnt see kids going to see eagle eye.second this dude has his own style you could see it when he was in even stevens. now im not knocking on anyones opinions at all but for someone to say he just acts in teen movies is sorely mistaken.

No obsession here just a strong dislike for him. To me he's like that white stuff that comes around the corners of your mouth when your really thirsty.

Well killerman, to each his own. And I don't follow Shia's every move because I am not abscessed with him, so I haven't seen as much movies of him as you. i think hes a pretty good actor for his age, and is only bound to get better. Look at most the actors today..

Okay fallen, you want to know how i feel about that sh*t. I thought that too was overated and Lebou made me puke still. I had rather see them do a movie of beast wars, Megatron terro..... boooooo! And if you'd watch more of this kid's acting you can easily tell his style is not original, if you don't believe me watch as many movies as you can with him in it and tell me then if he has his own style, because i don't see it. Once again, not hating just stating my opinion which i truly believe is a fact.

There are fans, there are haters and then there's the middle ground. I've only seen Shia in a few films, he's okay as an actor just not out standing.
He's neither Tom Hank's or Tom Cruise, Hank's just an over eager fun boy who thinks that he's funny.
Cruise on the other hand, can act and he knows it.
Shia on the other hand has his own style and at least from where I'm standing could be a better actor.

they need to change this website's name from movieweb to The Shia Ass Kissing contest. Is their anyone out their that's smart enough to understand what I'm preaching about. He's as close to Steven Seagal acting and that's not a joke. Call it hating, but i promise years down the road this is truth.

Shia's a great actor. I agree with ikilledbillt2wice, this could be his role. I'll definitely have to get a hold of this {though I haven't read a Grisham book since the Street Lawyer}.

Oh and I hate the term "talented", going to a video production school you hear that a lot. Especially from teachers. It's the equivalent of someone saying they are big boned when they are in truth, fat. So talented is just a nice way to say you're not that good but I need to give you a confidence booster.

I like Shia, I wonder if when Tom Hanks came out and other actors that had lots of personality that came out in their younger years if people hated them just as much? I don't know I am only 25 and wasn't aware of movies past ninja turtles when I was young.

The only thing I can say is Shia's roles tend to be about the feeling. Thats the only negative thing I can say about him.

you know when ur on the cover of vanity fair, rolling stone, every movie mag out there, when you've landed a role in some these past years BEST MOVIES(transformers, disturbia,Ind Jones, etc, etc) and when directors like Mr.Lucas and Mr.Bay seak you out for specific roles its kinda hard to beleive hes a wannabe anything Shia's tha truth hollywood called him the next Tom Hanks and idk what rock u live under but Hanks is tha man as well, so yea u sound like a hater...Hater lol

Every actor at some point in there career ends up in a John Grisham film! Not a fan of his writing..most of the books are dull and they don't ranslate well to the screen!

NOt to sound like a hater but i think Shia is overrated. He's a wannabe Tom Cruise in my opinion. Every movie i see him in makes me want to vomit, especially when he was in Constantine. It seems like the movies he stars in are wildly plotted thrillers that borrow a lot from other superior films, such as Eagle Eye and Disturbia. Eagle Eye had really no intelligent aspects about and definitely no consciousness. This guy takes dumb screenplays and makes them even dumber. Where are these low rate pile of sh*tty actors coming from. Maybe it has something to do with the recession, i don't know.
