Last year's sci-fi phenomena District 9 brought new opportunities for the star of the film, Sharlto Copley, who will appear as Murdock in The A-Team this summer. Empire recently spoke with Copley about his new film, but he also revealed some details on a follow-up to District 9.

"Neil wants it and I want it. Neil's doing another film first. Then I think if everything goes according to plan we'll do the second film in about two years time. That story can go in so many different ways. There¹s a whole universe. I'm sure a lot of writers say that, but we actually have an entire universe."

Director Neill Blomkamp revealed back in January that he was also considering a prequel to the film, which Copley touched on as well.

"There's a million ways you can go. Neil's actually very interested in prequels as well; he's said that a few times. We wouldn't do the traditional Hollywood version of the sequel which would just be 100 aliens fighting humans."

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further details on a District 9 sequel or prequel as soon as we have more information.

District 9 was released August 14th, 2009 and stars Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, Nathalie Boltt, Sylvaine Strike, Elizabeth Mkandawie, John Sumner, William Allen Young, Greg Melvill-Smith. The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp.

I loved the scene when Copley shot that Human soldier with that alien electric bolt gun and the guy exploded, and the alien said something in alien clicks and we read "F*ck!" That was hillarious that the alien reacted like we would have.

A prequel would be pointless. We already know as much as we need to know. They were in space traveling, the ship broke down and here they were. We need a sequel to see iif he gets back to his normal life. The alien said that he would be back in three years, right? That's a perfect set-up for a sequel, if ever I heard one. PLEASE, sequel. Let's not rehash. Move forward and progress. Just keep the formula the same. That's what works. Don't screw with the amount of garlic you put into the pot!

A prequel makes no sense, but I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want a sequel with District 9 ending with so many loose ends and virtually no resolution.

We need a sequel. With such a cliffhanger how could they not follow up with one.

With the amount they grossed, and such a great story it would be a shoe in sequel for any other director, but Blomkamp seems to know what he wants, so props to him.

Can't wait for this... and as much as a prequel would be cool, we can tell everything in flashbacks in the sequel, answering to both types of fans (ones wanting the past, the other the future) timeline wise. Saving milking, overexposure, and not necessarily packing story in, but making sure it has it's decent load of character driven madness. :)

So, it is going to be in 3D. Avatar broke hearts (card game metaphor, not emotionally) and now all movies are going to be 3D. It makes me sort of sad because I was really digging the movement to HD. 3D films are flashy, but they lack polish in my opinion. Anyway, the precedent is set. Movie tickets will be $13+ in the future and it won't be long before the romcoms are all 3D as well.

I'm kinda down for a prequel. I'd like to know what lead up to them being stranded there for a few decades... but I'd also like to see if the ship returns.... so... TRILOGY
