Shark Tale's video release moves past it's theatrical numbers

Movie PictureAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks Animation's Shark Tale generated more than $80 million in consumer spending during its first week on home video, according to DreamWorks Home Entertainment executives, surpassing its $56 million opening-week boxoffice take. Shark Tale sold more than 6 million combined DVD and VHS units across the United States and Canada, more than 5.5 million of which were DVDs, DHE chief Kelley Avery said.

"While we had a tremendous marketing campaign, I believe that its success on DVD can be attributed to a combination of the attention Shark Tale has received from its Academy Award nomination and from overwhelming retailer support," Avery said.
